    • Attachment for a vacuum cleaning appliance An attachment (10) for a vacuum cleaning appliance comprises a head (12), and a handle (14) connected to the head (12). The head comprises a bristle carrier (16) having a plurality of bristles (18), and a bristle cover (22) having a plurality of apertures (26). A conduit (50) is connectable to a vacuum cleaning appliance for conveying an air flow from the bristle cover (22) towards the appliance. The head (12) comprises a suction opening (52) of the conduit and the handle comprises an air bleed (62) into the conduit (50). An actuator (30) effects relative movement between the bristle carrier (16) and the bristle cover (22) from a stowed configuration in which the bristles (18) are retracted relative to the bristle cover (22) to a deployed configuration in which the bristles (18) protrude from the bristle cover (22) through the apertures (26). Means (64) are provided for controlling the air flow through the air bleed, for example depending on the configuration of the bristle carrier and the bristle cover so that when the head is in its deployed configuration there is a relatively low air flow into the suction opening (52) to prevent the head (12) from being pushed down against, for example, the skin of the pet being groomed, whereas when the head is in its stowed configuration it is preferable to have a relatively high air flow into the suction opening in order to draw the hair collected between the bristles into the conduit (50).

    • The invention provides cyclonic separating apparatus (100) comprising a chamber (112) for separating dirt and dust from an airflow, an inlet (110) to the chamber (112) and a shroud (200). The shroud (200) comprises a wall (202) having an inner surface (206), an outer surface (204) and a multiplicity of through-holes (208) forming an outlet from the chamber (112). Each through-hole (208) has an axis (Z 1 -Z 1 , Z 2 -Z 2 , Z 3 -Z 3 , Z 4 -Z 4 ). The inner surface (206) of the wall (202) has a serrated profile comprising a plurality of serrations (210) arranged around at least a part of the circumference of the wall (202), each serration having a first face (212) and a second face (214). At least one through- hole (208) passes through the first face (212) of at least one serration (210). By providing a plurality of serrations (210) around the inner circumference of the wall (202), the airflow is forced to follow a longer path through each through-hole (208) for when compared to conventional arrangements. This reduces the amount of dirt and dust which is able to pass through the shroud (200).
