摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer blend excellent in the balance among chemical resistance, toughness, and low-temp. flexibility by melt blending a vinyl or vinylidene halide polymer with a polyamide in the presence of a specific ethylene polymer as a compatibilizer. SOLUTION: The compatibilizer for a halide polymer and a polyamide is an ethylene polymer having carbon monoxide and/or carboxyl functionality. In the polymer blend, the wt. ratio of the polyamide to the halide polymer is about 1.5 to about 2; and the ethylene polymer is present in an effective amt., not higher than about 80 wt.% of the halide polymer. The ethylene polymer pref. has both carboxyl groups and carbon monoxide, an example being an ethylene-alkyl methacrylate-carbon monoxide copolymer. Polyvinyl chloride is pref. as the halide polymer. Nylon MPMD 6 and nylon MPMD 12 are pref. as the polyamide.

摘要： Gel, or unfluxed PVC grains commonly present in PVC plasticized with high molecular weight ethylene copolymer plasticizers, can be reduced by using an improved production process which involves substituting a modifier, which is partially crosslinked high molecular weight ethylene copolymer, for a portion of the non-crosslinked high molecular weight ethylene copolymer plasticizer. Preferably the modifier also contains a small amount of a low molecular weight plasticizer to counteract the effect of viscosity increase which the partially crosslinked ethylene copolymer otherwise would produce.

摘要： Polymers containing alpha -methylene-lact(ones)(ams) such as alpha -methylenebutyrolactones are useful in blends with other polymers. For examples such polymers which have reactive groups are toughened by mixing with a rubbery material which has complimentary reactive groups, or polymers containing repeat units derived from alpha -methylenelact(ones)(ams) are toughened by mixing with polymeric core-shell particles having an elastomeric core and a specified thermoplastic shell. The properties of thermoplastics are also improved by blending with alpha -methylene-lact(ones)(ams) such as a-methylenebutyrolactones containing (co)polymers.

摘要： This invention comprises a transparent laminate having at least one layer of glass and having self-adhered directly to the layer of glass a thermoplastic polymer layer having low haze and the laminate is capable of sustaining repeated or prolonged stress after breakage of the glass layer while maintaining the structural integrity of the laminate. Preferably, this invention is directed to a transparent laminate of two layers of glass laminated together with a thermoplastic polymer interlayer adhered directly to the glass; wherein the interlayer preferably is an ionomer resin and has Storage Young's Modulus of 50-1,000 MPa (mega Pascals) at 0.3 Hz and 25 DEG C determined according to ASTM D 5026-95a, a Minimum Tear Energy of at least 15 MJ/m (mega joules per cubic meter) determined from tensile tests carried out according to ASTM 638-89 at 25 DEG C and adhesion to glass of 5-42 MPa determined according to compressive Shear Strength Test determined at 25 DEG C and preferably, the interlayer of the laminate is a sheet of an ionomer resin; wherein the ionomer resin of a water insoluble salt of a polymer of ethylene and methacrylic acid or acrylic acid containing about 14-24 % by weight of the acid and about 76-86 % by weight of ethylene and having about 10-80 % of the acid neutralized with a metallic ion, and has a melt index of about 0.5-50. The invention also includes other laminate structures such as multiple layers of glass with thermoplastic polymer interlayers, glass/thermoplastic resin laminate incorporating a transparent durable layer and/or a coating and a process for making the laminate structure.
