摘要： A method of treatment and/or prevention of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) wherein, in a first step, the need for treatment or susceptibility to AMD is determined for an individual and, in a second step, a medication comprising lutein and/or zeaxanthin and/or certain antioxidants (or a mixture thereof) is tailored to that individual. The invention also provides a method of determining a substance to be administered to an individual, which individual may be susceptible of having age-related macular degeneration (or an age-related macular degeneration-related disorder) comprising: a) determining the susceptibility of the individual to age-related macular degeneration (usually genetically, by detection of an SNP); and b) on the basis of the determination in a), identifying a substance capable of preventing or treating age-related macular degeneration in that individual. The method may additionally comprise providing (such as administering or communicating) the substance (or its identity) to the individual.
