    • A down hole drill, includes a drill bit (40), a reciprocating piston (75) operable to deliver an impact load to the drill bit, and means for changing the frequency with which the piston delivers impact loading to the drill bit, also resulting in a change in overall power of the drill. The means for changing frequency and overall power may operate during continuous operation of the drill. The means for changing the frequency and overall power may include a valve (130) for selectively changing the effective volume of a drive or return chamber, an actuator ()140 for changing the timing of placing the drive (25) or return chamber (30) in communication with exhaust (95), or a system for changing the frequency in response to sensing an predetermined operating parameter of the drill, such as pressure or piston position.

    • A stand for a motorcycle which acts on the front wheel of the vehicle to support it in an upright position. The stand comprises a floor-standing frame 2L, 2R with an inclined ramp 1 at one end and a pair of uprights 3L, 3R attached to the frame. The motorcycle is pushed or driven up the ramp, raising the front of the vehicle and guiding the front suspension forks of the vehicle over the uprights of the stand. As the wheel crosses the end of the ramp, the front of the vehicle drops and the ends of the front forks engage brackets 4L, 4R attached to the uprights. Locating rods 6A, 6B limit movement of the motorcycle forward or backward when the vehicle is on the stand. The ramp may be pivotally attached (13, fig 2) to the frame and the uprights may be adjustable longitudinally 9 with respect to the frame and vertically 8. The stand may be fixed to the ground and may act as an attachment point for anti-theft devices and a lightweight covered frame to protect the motorcycle from the elements. The stand can operate on the rear wheel of some motorcycles.
