    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor capable of ensuring the stable continuity of an electrode pad and a metal terminal, and a method for manufacturing same. SOLUTION: The gas sensor has a sensor element 2, an insertion holding insulator and a housing. The sensor element 2 is constituted by providing two pairs of electrode pads 21 to the base end part 22 and the electrode pads 21 are respectively arranged on both electrode forming surfaces 23 of the sensor element 2. The base end part 22 of the sensor element 2 is grasped by a terminal unit 3 composed of a pair of base end side insulators 31, the metal terminals 32 arranged to the inside surfaces of the base end side insulators 31 and a spring member 33 for pressing a pair of the base end side insulators 31 in a mutually approaching direction. The base end side insulators 31 have the insulator contact parts 316 coming into contact with the electrode forming surfaces 23 of the sensor element 2 and the insulator contact parts 316 are arranged on the base end side of the sensor element 2 from terminal contact points 322 with which the metal terminals 32 and the electrode pads 21 come into contact.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and easy-to-manufacture gas sensor, and its manufacturing method, in which the atmosphere on the atmospheric side can be separated from the atmosphere on the side of gas being measured. SOLUTION: At the time of manufacturing the housing 10 of a gas sensor 1 having an inner side face 104 provided with a receiving face 103 arranged to bear a tapered part 210 provided on the outer circumferential surface of an insulator 21, a metallic member is prepared and the inner side face thereof is subjected to cold forging while being applied with a bonding agent and an oil thus shaping the inner side face as desired. Subsequently, the bonding agent and oil are removed from the inner side face using alkaline and acid and the outer side face of the metallic member is shaped as desired by cutting.
