An apparatus (2, 32, 48) for impregnating items according to the method of claim 1, comprising a closed chamber (12), one or more storage containers for specific impregnating agents, said storage containers being connected with an electric pump (71) via a valve system comprising one or more valves, where said pump (71) being connected with one or more atomising nozzles (72) in said chamber (12), an electronic control unit being adapted to activate said pump (71) and said valve system for connecting it with a storage container containing a specific impregnating agent, a filter (60) and an air pump, ventilator (66) or corresponding means provided and adapted to establish a vacuum in said chamber (12) for removal of residual impregnating agent from said chamber (12) and to retain the residue in said filter (60).
