SOLUTION: In a sterilizing apparatus 1 for a can lid, in which while the continuously fed can lids are transported out of contact and at equal spaces by a transport screw 6, the lids are sequentially passed through a chemical liquid spray part 4 and a hot air heating part 5 to be subjected to the sterilizing process, and then continuously fed to a can lid seamer, a feed stopper 10 for intercepting the supply of a can lid is provided on the transport upstream side from the chemical liquid spray part 4 and a reject mechanism 11 for removing the already sterilized can lid from the transport patch is provided on the transport downstream from the hot air heating part 5.

When the tab in two lines of grooves 22 is gone, the operation is shifted to the next operation by shifting the stocker 2 by one pitch in the horizontal direction, and the tab is fed continuously in a stable state.

Thus, since the germinated spore bearing bacteria can be sterilized by the high pressure treatment, the very high sterilizing effect is obtained without performing a high temperature thermal treatment exceeding 100°C, and the spore bearing bacteria growing at low temperature of not more than 10°C can especially efficiently be sterilized.
