摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarized electrode which is suitable for an electric double-layer capacitor having large capacitance and good low temperature characteristic. SOLUTION: A polarized electrode 1 is made of a composite of active carbon/ carbon, the active carbon comprising active carbon powder or active carbon fiber, and the carbon being made by carbonizing thermosetting resin. The density of the composite of active carbon/carbon is in a range of 0.70 to 0.85 g/cm and the thickness of the composite of active carbon/carbon is in a range of 0.7 to 3.0 cm.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a solid active carbon wherein sufficiently high mechanical strength is provided. SOLUTION: In rapid temperature-rising process (that is, binder-removing process) during thermal treatment process where a mold is thermally processed, an active carbon electrode is manufactured by raising a temperature at a specified temperature-rising rate of 300( deg.C/hr) or more. Therefore, temperature-rising rate during temperature-rising process for thermal treatment is fast enough to promptly decompose/remove an excessive part of phenol resin, thus sufficiently high mechanical strength is provided.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen the added amount of water to a granulated powder mixture and to inhibit the generation of warpage of the mixture or the generation of distortion of the mixture subsequent to a heat treatment of the mixture by a method wherein with an extrusion molding performed in a molding process, granulated powder, which is led not only from a mixing process but from a granulating process, is used in the extrusion molding. SOLUTION: Activated carbon powder is mixed with a thermosetting resin and a solvent and the powder, the resin and the solvent are kneaded with each other. The amount of the solvent to be added at this time is set in 100 parts weight or lighter of solvent to 100 parts weight of the total amount of activated carbon powder and thermosetting resin. After this kneading ends, the mixture is subjected to a drying treatment to remove the solvent and is ground to granulate into powder of a particle diameter of a prescribed size. That is, by grinding the mixture by a ball mill or the like, the granulated powder is granulated into powder of a mean particle diameter of 420μm or shorter. Then, for performing an extrusion molding on the granulated powder, a coupler is added to the powder and is mixed with the powder. Then, this granulated powder mixture is mixed with water and is subjected to extrusion molding. After the extrusion molding, the mixture is heat-treated in an atmosphere of inert gas, such as vacuum, Ar gas or N2 gas, and the thermosetting resin is carbonized to obtain an activated carbon polarized electrode.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently disperse excessive thermosetting resin by compulsorily discharging the decomposition gas of thermosetting resin in the course of heat treatment. SOLUTION: In the course of heat treatment, the decomposition gas or the like of phenolic resin which has been generated in a furnace is compulsorily discharged outside the furnace, by vacuum discharge in an exhaust process 5, and the atmospheric pressure in the furnace is maintained to be almost constant. That is, the decomposition gas of phenolic resin is prevented from remaining in the vicinity of the surface of a molded object, and decomposition is accelerated. A part of phenolic resin is carbonized and excessive parts are sufficiently dispersed to form active carbon-carbon compound material with a specified sinter density and deflection strength. Thereby an electric double layer capacitor having large capacitance and low capacity reduction ratio can be obtained.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an active-carbon electrode having a high specific surface area with high productivity by molding a mixed powder of active-carbon powder and a thermosetting resin into a molded body with a predetermined shape through cold pressure molding and by heat-treating the molded body as it is in a non-oxidative atmosphere. SOLUTION: In a process 1, a solvent, e.g. acetone, etc., is added to active- carbon powder and a phenol resin as a thermosetting resin and kneaded. In a process 2, thus obtained kneaded material is dried in a vacuum at 50 deg.C for about 3 hours to remove the residual solvent, and in a following process 3, it is ground for example by attritor, etc., and further in a process 4, it is granulated into a predetermined grain size by passing through a mesh of about #70 for example. Then, in a process 5, thus obtained mixed powder is cold pressure molded into a molded body, and in a process 6, it is heat-treated in N2 gas atmosphere at 900 deg.C for 2 hours to carbonize the phenol resin to obtain an active-carbon electrode which is an active-carbon - carbon composite material.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the manufacturing method by which a very thin solid active carbon electrode can stably be manufactured. SOLUTION: In the stage 3 for tape forming, a slurry contg. powdery active carbon, a water-insoluble powdery thermosetting resin such as phenolic resin, water and a waster-soluble forming binder is continuously formed into a tape- like body by using a doctor blade method. Since a tape-like body having a very thin thickness can be formed by the doctor blade method, in the stage 7 for heat treatment, by subjecting a formed body obtained from the tape-like body through stages 4 to 6, to heat treatment in a gaseous N2 atmosphere, the phenolic resin in the above slurry is carbonized to form a very thin active carbon electrode having an about 0.1 to 1.5 mm thickness. At this time, the water-insoluble powdery phenolic resin is almost uniformly dispersed in the slurry and therefore, the formed body contains the phenolic resin being in a highly dispersed state. Thus, the objective very thin active carbon electrode having an almost uniform structure can be stably manufactured.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active carbon electrode which has a sufficiently high ion mobility, a method for manufacturing the electrode, and an electric double layer capacitor which is sufficiently small in its capacitance reduction rate. SOLUTION: The active carbon is made up of many hollow spherical shells 30 made of active carbon particles 28 mutually coupled and spherical voids 32 defined within the shells 30. For this reason, the voids 32 enables formation of a relatively large passage through which ions can be easily passed through the structure of the active carbon. And the thickness of the hollow spherical shells 30, that is, the thickness of the active carbon particles 28, through which ions have to pass, becomes smaller than that when the particles 28 arc nearly uniformly dispersed all over the active carbon structure. Thereby the carbon structure can provide a small mobility resistance to the ions. Thus an active carbon electrode 10 can has a sufficiently high ion mobility, which leads to realization of an electric double layer capacitor which has a sufficiently small capacitance reduction ratio.

摘要： The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for producing an RFeB system magnet with high coercivity by preventing a coating material from peeling off the surface of a base material during a grain boundary diffusion treatment. Provided is a method for producing an R L 2 Fe 14 B system magnet which is a sintered magnet or a hot-deformed magnet containing, as the main rare-earth element, a light rare-earth element R L which is at least one of the two elements ofNd and Pr, the method including the steps of: applying, to a surface of a base material M of the R L 2 Fe 14 B system magnet, a coating material 10 prepared by mixing a silicone grease 11 and an R H -containing powder 14 containing a heavy rare-earth element R H composed of at least one element selected from the group of Dy, Tb and Ho; and heating the base material M together with the coating material. The silicone having a siloxane bond prevents the coating material 10 from peeling off the surface of the base material M during the heating process. The improved adhesion of the coating material 10 to the base material M facilitates transfer of R H into the grain boundaries of the base material M, whereby the coercivity is increased.
