摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substituent apparatus of a comparatively low cost in order to discharge a chemical additive into a fluid system at a fixed speed which requires minimum human intervention. SOLUTION: The apparatus for discharging the chemical additive 7 into a fluid material which is selected from a lubricant composition or an operation liquid composition, e.g., a container 1 includes: a fluid material non-permeable casing 3 which has a hollow interior; and the additive composition 7 which contains at least one fluid material soluble additive. The additive 7 is held in the container 1 by at least one fluid material permeable element 11 which is installed at the opening 13 of the casing 3 or in its vicinity, and effective for providing the discharge of the additive 7 into the fluid material. A liquid replacement system (10) is provided for introducing additives to an open recirculating system (18) or a closed loop boiler water system in a controlled manner. The liquid replacement system (10) comprises a make-up line (12) and an additive system (14) disposed therein. A make-up liquid enters into the make-up line (12) where the additive system (14) is structured to provide a controlled release of an additive to the make-up liquid which carries the additives into the open recirculating system (18) or a closed loop boiler water system.

The methods including placing a controlled release additive composition in contact with an open circulating aqueous coolant in an open circulating water cooling tower system. The controlled release additive composition includes a core having at least one additive selected from corrosion inhibitors and scale inhibitors; and a coating, for example, a polymeric coating, substantially surrounding the core. The coating is substantially insoluble in the aqueous coolant, and is effective to slow the release of the at least one additive into the aqueous coolant.
