    • Apparatus and process for extracting powder from a stream of powder laden air drawn from a manual powder spray booth in a first embodiment, with a cyclone recovery system, typically containing two cyclone separators for separating the powder from the air. The cyclone separators have a breakaway design to facilitate cleaning. The resulting cyclone cleaned air is drawn through a prefilter section by a fan section having serially stacked fans. The prefilter section further separates powder from the cyclone cleaned air. The resulting prefilter cleaned air is next filtered in a final filter section and exhausted to the air surrounding the cyclone recovery system. The invention also relates to an improved cyclone separator which incorporates a perforated thimble between the downwardly and upwardly moving vortexes in the cyclone separator to reduce the pressure drop across the cyclone separator. In a second embodiment, a stream of powder laden air is drawn from an automatic powder spray booth with a cyclone recovery system typically incorporating horizontally disposed cyclone separators, each with a perforated thimble, a filter module with cartridge filters, a fan module, and a final filter.

    • The filter of the present invention continually provides the passenger compartment of a vehicle with a supply of purified air, even in the most severe environmental conditions. The filter comprises an inlet surface, an outlet surface, walls which define a plurality of passages which extend from the inlet surface to the outlet surface, and a filtration means for removing the impurities from the fluid. The filter preferably can be subdivided into a plurality of layers, including an inlet layer, an intermediate layer, an outlet layer. Each layer includes a plurality of cells, the cells having walls with a generally curvilinear shape. A plurality of the passages are preferably in fluid communication with a plurality of other passages. Surface filtration is used to remove the impurities from the fluid flowing through the passages. The impurities are retained within the filtration means which are disposed on the walls, as the fluid flows through the passages essentially unrestricted even when the removing means is saturated with impurities.

    • An edge for frontal engagement with air flow as occurs when vehicles are moving in an air environment.     • A static mixer device for mixing separate fluid streams entering the device in order to achieve a more uniform, or homogeneous, characteristic, such as temperature for example, in the resulting fluid mixture stream exiting the device. An exemplary embodiment of device comprises a series of parallel rectangular walls arranged in side-by-side, spaced apart relationship to form a series of rectangular spaces. The perimeters of these spaces are selectively closed to define respective first and second inlets and an outlet. The inlets sub-divide the respective entering fluid streams into sheet-like streams that are interleaved as they exit the device at the outlet. This interleaving of one stream with the other promotes increased homogeneity of the mixture stream in a shorter distance downstream of the confluence of the entrance streams. Turning vanes are provided for turning one of the sub-divided streams as it passes through the exemplary embodiment of mixer which is used as an air mixer in a coal-fired power plant.
