    • A two part window and door assembly includes a sill, head and jambs for the window or door frame and stiles and rails for a window sash. Each of the sill, head, jambs, stiles and rails is formed in two parts, that is, an interior part and an exterior part. A coupling is used to join together the interior part and the exterior part of each of the sill, head, jambs, stiles and rails. The coupling includes an outrigger formed as an elongated member on one of the interior part and the exterior part. The other of the interior part and the exterior part defines an outrigger receiving slot. The coupling includes a first hook and a second hook. The first and second hooks are disposed on one and the other of the interior part and the exterior part. The outrigger is received by the outrigger receiving slot, and the first and second hooks engage each other to join the interior part and the exterior part together. A locking spline is used to selectively maintain the engagement of the first and second hooks so that the interior part and the exterior part remain joined together.

    • A housing with a top wall, upstanding parallel walls and two upstanding posts between the upstanding walls on a line parallel with the walls. Each post extends through an elongated opening in a first bolt which is mounted slidingly in the housing for reciprocation toward first and second ends of the housing. The bolt is extendible beyond the second end of the housing for engaging a window jamb when the housing is mounted on a sash of a tilt window that is fully seated in the jamb. The bolt is urged toward the second end by a spring in one of the elongated openings, bearing on the bolt and the post in the opening. A second bolt is supported slidingly between the first bolt and one of the walls, and is extendible beyond the second end for engaging the jamb. A portion of the first bolt extends through an upstanding wall, and a portion of the second bolt extends through the top wall.

    • Wheels for movement along a floor-mounted track at the bottom of a sliding door are shown supported within U-shaped members which are pivotally coupled to brackets secured to the lower edge of the door. The wheels are prevented from being dislodged from the track via retainer elements, each of which is a channel element having an elongated opening in its web and inturned flange terminations at the edges of its walls. An integral plate extends from one side of the channel and is pivotally mounted on the pin or stub shaft extending through the wheel and U-shaped member. The retainer element is significantly longer than the diameter of the wheel, and the flange terminations are snapped over the track and in interference relation with lips of the track. The wheel at its lower portion extends through the opening in the retainer element and rides on the track. When the door is tilted or rocked, the flange terminations remain interlocked with the lips of the track, thereby keeping the wheel on the track while permitting the U-shaped member to pivot on the wheel and the bracket to pivot on the U-shaped member in accommodating the relatively non-parallel relations of the door and track.

    • A window structure is disclosed wherein the center portion includes sliding panels which have stiles in abutment in their closed positions, such stiles having plates or ribs extending from their inner surfaces which are captured and releasably held by a latch mechanism that is pivotal on one rib and slidable along it. On the exterior of the structure, one of the stiles carries a plate that spans equal areas of both abutting stiles. The latch is symmetrically contoured, whereby observation from either side of the structure does not clarify the edge portion and direction of movement of such portion of the latch that is required in order to operate the latch and permit the sashes to be moved apart. Further, the exterior plate prevents insertion of a tool between the abutting stiles when the sashes are in closed position and latched. The latch is spring biased to closed position, and has a cam surface which functions upon closing the sashes to be deflected by the rib of the other stile as it moves to stile-abutting position, and the latch moves to releasable locking relation with such camming stile after the deflection and the stiles reaching abutment. A weatherstrip is carried by the stile to which the exterior plate is not fixed, and sealingly engages such exterior plate in the closed positions of the sashes, thereby preventing entry of moisture and dirt between the abutting stiles.
