    • A network device which is for use in an Ethernet packet-based communication system has at least one port which is capable of auto-negotiation to select between half duplex and full duplex working on a link to which the port is connected. The device includes means for monitoring the existence of late collisions between packets on said link, means for monitoring the existence of packet fragments on the link, and monitoring means for detecting and correcting for a duplex mismatch on the link partner. This monitoring means is operative to determine whether there are any late collisions and in the absence of a detection of fragments to configure the port from a half duplex mode to a full duplex mode. The monitoring means is also operative to detect the presence of fragments when the port is in full duplex mode and thereby to provide an indication that a rule relating to network size is infringed.

    • A stapler movable between a rest position and a stapling position and having a front end and a rear end. The stapler includes a base, a staple magazine coupled to the base and configured to hold staples, and a driver blade operable to drive staples out of the staple magazine during stapling operations. The stapler further includes an elastic member coupled to the driver blade and operable to move the driver blade during stapling operations. The elastic member utilizes potential energy to move the driver blade during stapling operations. The driver blade is positioned above the staple magazine when the stapler is in the rest position and the magazine is extendable from the front end of the stapler to allow a user to load staples in the magazine. The stapler is configured such that only the potential energy of the elastic member can operate the driver blade during stapling operations.

    • A dimmer switch assembly consists of a conductive yoke which has two insulation housings connected thereto which carry respective subassemblies for the dimmer switch. The first insulation housing contains a rotatable push shaft. Shaft rotation rotates a resistor plate having a resistive pattern on its surface relative to fixed resistor contacts. A biasing spring biases the shaft to an outward position relative to the conductive yoke. A cavity in the first housing receives a main power semiconductor device of the dimmer switch. The power semiconductor device is thermally connected to the yoke through a thin electrically insulative tape and has an active, non-electrically isolated, heat sink. A biasing spring within the first housing presses the power semiconductor device toward mechanical engagement with the yoke. The first housing assembly is fastened to the yoke by conductive eyelets which are insulated from the power semiconductor by the first insulation housing. The second insulation housing is a switch housing which contains a rotatable indexing cam switch which rotates relative to two spring contacts disposed on opposite sides of the cam such that the rotation of the cam alternately connects and disconnects the contacts through a conductive spider on the cam. The cam is operated by depressing the main shaft relative to the yoke. Insulation keying structures automatically key the first and second housings relative to the yoke and to one another.

    • A roller shade mounting system provides a tube-in-tube arrangement for reducing sagging of a roller tube windingly supporting a shade fabric. The mounting system includes a mounting tube received within a roller tube, and first and second annular drive rings located on an outer surface of the mounting tube. The drive rings are secured to the mounting tube and the roller tube secured to the drive rings such that rotation of the mounting tube results in rotation of the roller tube. Each drive ring is located at a distance from an end of the roller tube for limiting sagging deflection of the roller tube. The tube-in-tube arrangement provided by the mounting system provides controlled deflection for the roller tube without necessitating undesirably large increase in the diameter of the roller tube, which could create an undesirable appearance in many roller shade installations.
