    • A tube expander having a stop collar for limiting the axial movement of the tube end relative to the expander to prevent damage to the tube end. The stop collar is comprised of a hollow stop collar body having the end adjacent to the tube end slotted to slidingly receive a pair of stop members that can be moved relative to each other to vary the size of the aperture extending through the stop collar body. The stop collar members substantially encircle the cage and have surfaces thereon that engage the end of the tube.

    • A tube expanding and flaring tool comprising a rotatable cage which has a nose guide, size to be received in a tube end that is to be expanded and flared. The cage has a tail shaft by which the cage is to be rotated. There is at least one roller carried by the cage which extends partially through the cage for rolling engagement with the interior surface of the tube. There is a nose surface on the roller with a portion thereof tapering from a first diameter to a second relatively larger diameter. Also there is a truncated conical tail surface on the roller expanding at a predetermined angle form the second diameter to a third relatively large diameter. Further there is means for supporting the at least one roller in rolling engagement with the interior surface of the tube end with sufficient force to expand the tube to a diameter relatively larger than its original diameter and to flare the tube end at the predetermined angle of the truncated conical tail surface of the roller.

    • The invention provides a tube cutter of the type which forces a tool bit against an interior tube wall as the bit is rotated to sever the tube from the inside. The inventive tool cutter comprises a housing for holding the tool bit at a distance from the tube end as the tool bit is rotated; a feed shaft positioned by the housing for converting axial force along the feed shaft into radially directed pressure forcing the tool bit outwardly against the interior tube wall at the distance from the tube end as the tool bit is rotated; a drive means positioned by the housing for releaseable drive engagement with the feed shaft, the drive means having a released non-feed position and an engaged feed position in which axial force is applied to the feed shaft; means positioned by said housing for actuating the drive means between the released position and the engaged position; and means positioned by the housing for limiting the maximum axial force applied by the drive means to said feed shaft so that the maximum radial force on the tool bit is limited.

    • A grooving tool includes a spindle rotatable about a longitudinal axis thereof and having at least one coolant inlet port, a ramp portion, and a fluid flow path to the ramp portion; a tool bit moveably coupled to the ramped portion, the tool bit comprising one or more teeth and one or more coolant channels to supply coolant proximate the one or more teeth, the one or more coolant channels operatively connected to the fluid flow path; wherein movement of the tool bit along the ramp portion toward the inlet port causes the one or more teeth to be displaced outward from the longitudinal axis. The fluid flow path may include a longitudinal passage in the spindle disposed generally along the longitudinal axis. The coolant channels may be angled with respect to the teeth and dispense coolant supplied via the fluid flow path toward the teeth.

    • A tool for expanding a tube into engagement with a wall of a hole in a plate and simultaneously forming a flange on the end of the tube has a mandrel having a tapered distal portion. The mandrel receives for rotation and axial displacement a tubular cage. The cage carries expanding rolls, each of which is supported for rotation in a slot in a distal portion of the cage, is displaceable radially, is in rolling engagement with the tapered portion of the mandrel and the tube when the tool is in operation, and is skewed at a small angle to the mandrel axis so as to impart traction to the cage and the mandrel and draw them distally into the cage upon rotation of the mandrel. A forming roll is supported for rotation and for displacement radially with respect to the mandrel axis in an opening in the cage and has: at least one conical following surface that is in rolling engagement with the tapered portion of the mandrel; a conical expanding surface that is in rolling engagement with the tube; a forming surface immediately adjacent the expanding surface proximally that is in rolling engagement with the tube; and a conical thrust-receiving surface at a proximal end. Axial force is transmitted from the cage to the thrust-receiving surface by an annular two race axial thrust bearing, which is supported on and surrounds the cage proximally of the forming roll.
