摘要： A method of making an alkylaminoarylcarbonyl compound having Formula I: ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl group;A is an aryl (including heteroaryl) ring;each R' is independently an alkyl group which may form a ring with Z or Z';p is 0, 1, 2, or 3;each Z, Z', and Y is independently hydrogen or a substituent; andn is 0, 1, or 2;comprising:(a) blocking the carbonyl function of an aminoarylcarbonyl compound via condensation with an active methylene compound(b) alkylating this blocked amniocarbonyl compound via reductive alkylation with an alkyl or aryl (including heteroaryl) carbonyl compound, and(c) deblocking of the blocked alkylaminoarylcarbonyl compound via base hydrolysis to regenerate the carbonyl function and give the desired alkylaminocarbonyl compound.

摘要： Disclosed is a photographic element containing a light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a coupler represented by Formula I: ##STR1## wherein COUP is a coupler parent group capable of reacting with an oxidized developer to form a first dye and is bonded at a coupling position to the group ##STR2## wherein X is a or NSO.sub.2 R; R is an alkyl or aryl group; and DYE is a releasable second dye that is after release the same color as the first dye and is linked to OC.dbd.X by a moiety of the DYE having Formula (IA): ##STR3## wherein R.sup.2 is a substituent; provided there is contained in the coupler of Formula I at least one group of Formula IB:--L.sub.m --Sol IBwherein L is a divalent linking group and m is 0 or 1; and Sol is a group containing an acidic hydrogen selected from the group consisting of --ArOH, --NHSO.sub.2 R.sup.1 and --SO.sub.2 NHR.sup.1, in which AR is an aromatic group and each R.sup.1 is a substitute; provided further that the pKa of an acidic hydrogen of Sol is less than 8.8.

摘要： There are described intermediates for the preparation of known pyrazoloazole photographic magenta dye forming couplers and processes for making and using these intermediates. The intermediates are low molecular weight compounds represented by the structure: ##STR1## wherein: R, X, R.sup.1 and Y are defined herein. The process for making these intermediates involves diazotizing a 5-amino-1H-pyrazole to produce a 5-diazo-1H-pyrazole, then condensing the diazotized product with an active methine or methylene compound having a pKa of 14 or less to produce a substituted hydrazone and then subjecting the hydrazone to cyclization and reduction, in either order.

The invention also provides a photographic coupler dispersion, a photographic silver halide emulsion, and a process for forming an image in a photographic element in accordance with the invention. The photographic element, coupler dispersion, silver halide emulsion, and imaging process provide improved reactivity and photographic properties.
