    • Apparatus for sequentially registering a sheet, movable along a travel path, relative to such travel path, clamping such sheet at its registered location and guiding such sheet as it moves from its registered location. Such apparatus comprises an elongated member having a sheet registration portion, a sheet clamping portion, and a sheet guiding portion. The elongated member is sequentially moved relative to the sheet travel path to: a first position where the registration portion intercepts and stops a sheet moving along the travel path at a registration location to effect registration of the sheet, and the sheet clamping portion and sheet guiding portion are inoperative; a second position where the sheet clamping portion secures the registered sheet at such registration location; and a third position where the clamping portion releases the registered sheet, and the sheet guiding portion guides the sheet as it moves away from the registration location.

    • Scavenging apparatus for removing substantially all unwanted particles from the image and non-image areas of an electrostatographic imaging member without appreciable adverse effects on the desired image remaining thereon, includes an alternating pole magnetic roller for rotatably creating a fast changing magnetic field, a stationary ac biased shell for enclosing the magnetic roller and for creating a low, but fast changing electrostatic field, and a low vacuum system. This apparatus combines the effects of such magnetic and electrostatic fields with those of the low vacuum system to gently loosen and effectively remove unwanted particles from the imaging member, without resort to relatively strong electrostatic field and vacuum values that are likely to adversely affect the desired loose toner image still on the imaging member.

    • A brush-vacuum cleaning apparatus, for removing toner particles from the image-bearing surface of a copier or printer, includes an airfoil located on the inside wall of a cylindrical brush housing. The airfoil relative to the rotation of the brush is positioned adjacent to, and on the upstream side of, a perpendicular slot that connects the interior of the brush housing to a vacuum source. The airfoil contacts and compresses the rotating fibers of the brush causing the fibers to rub against one another and thereby to loosen the toner particles entrained therein. In addition, the airfoil serves to aerodynamically deflect and accelerate the airstream moving with the fibers, deep into the fibers, thereby flushing the loose toner particles out of the brush and out of the housing.

    • Apparatus and method for cleaning a flexible sheet moving along a travel path, such sheet including a leading edge extending transverse to the direction of sheet travel. A rotatable fibrous cleaning brush is located with its fibers intercepting the travel path of the moving sheet. Responsive to the approach of the leading edge of the sheet, a standing wave is generated in the fibers of the rotating brush. The standing wave results in the fibers being temporarily moved away from the travel path to enable the leading edge to pass substantially freely by such fibers. The fibers return substantially immediately into contact with the sheet after passage of the leading edge to clean the sheet including the area of the sheet adjacent to such edge.

    • In an electrographic copier wherein discrete dielectric sheets are moved seriatim about a travel path having a portion in juxtaposition with a developer station for developing imagewise electrostatic charge patterns on such sheets with developer material, apparatus for selectively sealing developer material within such station and, during such sealing, guiding a moving sheet along such travel path portion out of developing relation with such developer material. The apparatus comprises a member selectively movable to a first position sealing developer material within the developer station and forming a sheet guide coincident with the sheet travel path portion, or a second position remote from such first position. In response to the lead edge of a discrete dielectric sheet moving away from the travel path portion, the member is moved to its second position leaving the sheet in developing relation to developer material in the developer station; and in response to the trail edge of such sheet moving into the travel path portion, the member is moved to its first position to seal developer material within such station and to guide such sheet along such travel path portion out of developing relation to developer material.
