摘要： An ophthalmic device for implantation into a capsular bag of an eye includes an adhesive or adherent that adheres to an eye at certain temperatures or other physical conditions, but has little or no adherence at other temperatures. The ophthalmic device may be an accommodating intraocular lens including an adjustable optic body and a support structure. The support structure includes an outer structure, an intermediate structure, and an adhesive or adherent material disposed over at least a portion of the support structure. The intermediate structure is located between, and connected to, the outer structure and the optic body. The outer structure has an outer face configured for engaging a capsular bag of an eye. The outer face includes an equatorial region, with anterior and posterior regions disposed on opposite sides of the equatorial region. Under a predetermined condition, the posterior region has an adhesion that is greater than an adhesion of the anterior region.

摘要： An accommodating intraocular lens (aIOL) is disclosed, with an optic that changes shape in response to an ocular force exerted by the zonules of the eye. A haptic supports the optic around its equator and couples the optic to the capsular bag of the eye. A surface adherent improves the accommodative performance of the haptic, such that compressive/tensile forces may be more efficiently transferred from the haptic to optic. One way to enhance force transfer is to provide a surface layer of an adhesive to the haptic and/or optic, for instance a reversible bioadhesive material. Or, portions of the exterior surface of the IOL may have microfibers thereon that mimic the adhesive properties of Gecko feet. Another aspect is application of a reversible bioadhesive material to the interior of the empty capsular bag prior to introduction of an injectable polymer IOL.

摘要： Phacoemulsification apparatus includes a phacoemulsification handpiece having a needle and an electrical circuitry for ultrasonic vibrating the needle. A power source provides pulsed electrical power to the handpiece electrical circuitry and an input is provided for enabling a surgeon to select an amplitude of dislighted pulses and a pulse width. A control system and pulse duty cycle is provided for controlling the off duty cycle to insure heat dissipation before a subsequent pulse is activated, including a foot pedal switch.

The short burst periods and the short rest periods are relatively brief in duration as compared with the long off period.

摘要： A multipurpose phacoemulsification needle includes a needle body having a lumen therethrough for aspiration of fluids and tissue. A needle body includes a proximal end adapted for attachment to a phacoemulsification handpiece and a tip portion disposed at a distal end of the needle body. The tip portion includes a truncated hemisphere having a flat surface thereon and a port disposed in the flat surface. The truncated hemisphere includes a rounded surface of sufficient area to enable capsule polishing and when driven in an ultrasonic mode, the needle is also suitable for irrigation and aspiration as well as phacoemulsification of lens tissue.
