摘要： A take-up reel (10) for winding and storing an elongate hose (12) or electrical cable (12) that permits the hose (12) to be payed-out at any speed while providing the safety benefits of a viscous speed governor during take-up. The take-up reel (10) comprises a reel (24) supported by a stationary support shaft (32) and is urged in a first direction by a torsional spring (38). A viscous clutch assembly (50) comprising multiple disks (82, 84) housed in a chamber filled with a viscous fluid is coupled to the reel (24). A unidirectional clutch (66) is provided to decouple the viscous clutch (50) from the reel (24) when the hose (12) may be payed-out without resistance from the viscous clutch (50). As the hose (12) is being taken-up by the reel (10), the unidirectional clutch (66) engages the viscous clutch (50) which retards the take-up velocity of the hose reel (24).
