摘要： Methods and apparatus for finishing an edge of a glass sheet are described. The edge of the glass sheet is finished using a grinding wheel mounted on one end of a spindle, the grinding wheel having a peripheral edge that contacts the edge of the glass sheet during the grinding. The edge of the glass sheet is further finished by polishing the edge of the glass sheet with a polishing wheel mounted on one end of a spindle, the polishing wheel having an end face which contacts the glass edge during polishing.

There is a raised portion (26) that extends orthogonal to the lower contact surface and that has an upper contact surface that is parallel to the lower contact surface for positioning against the flat workpiece, wherein a height dimension between the lower and upper contact surfaces is uniform to within +/- 0.02 mm. A vacuum chamber (40) hollowed out within the raised portion is in fluid communication with a vacuum port for providing vacuum force through the vacuum chamber to secure the workpiece against the upper contact surface.

摘要： A method for finishing an edge of a glass sheet comprises grinding the edge of the glass sheet with a grinding wheel. The glass sheet includes a first major surface, a second major surface substantially parallel to the first major surface, and the edge connecting the first and second major surfaces. The grinding produces a central edge portion and two chamfered edge portions connecting the central edge portion with the first and second major surfaces, respectively. The method further comprises polishing the central edge portion with at least one cup wheel rotated about a first axis substantially parallel with the first and second major surfaces of the glass sheet to polish the central edge portion, wherein an abrasive layer of the cup wheel comprises at least one of ferric oxide (Fe 2 O 3 ), silicon carbide (SiC), and ceric oxide (CeO 2 ).

摘要： Methods of cutting a glass-metal laminate include directing a moving laser beam through the glass layer to the metal layer, forming a hot spot in the metal layer. The hot spot forms a metal-layer cut line. The method includes locally heating the glass layer with heat from the metal layer hot spot to form in the glass layer a moving heated region. With rapid cooling, the moving heated region forms a glass-layer fracture line that follows the metal-layer cut line, defining a laminated-structure cut line. The methods provide a cut glass-metal laminate product or article.

摘要： A method of processing a glass laminate substrate includes carrying a glass laminate substrate including a glass substrate on a metal substrate to a processing location; radiating a laser onto the metal substrate through the glass substrate; and cooling a portion of the glass substrate, through which the laser is radiated, such that the glass substrate is cut at the portion through which the laser is radiated. When methods of processing and cutting a glass laminate substrate and an apparatus for processing a glass laminate substrate, according to embodiments, are used, a glass laminate substrate having high edge strength after cutting may be produced.
