摘要： A sheet of brittle material, such as glass, flat or bowed, is separated along a score line by applying vibration energy through a probe into previously scored sheet material. The separation time is less than 1 second with smooth edge quality. The brittle material can be in the form of a moving ribbon of glass sheet, where a vibrational load is applied transverse to the score line to enhance crack propagation along the score line. A controller operates the probe at selected vibration frequencies, amplitudes, contact velocities, contact forces of impact, alignment with the score line, and the like, depending on material properties and structure, and depending on optimal process parameters.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unwanted breakage occurring in a part adjacent to a score line when separating glass sheets from continuous glass ribbons.SOLUTION: When the continuous glass ribbon 204 having a curvature in a lateral direction is formed, a bow of a conformable nosing 110 is adjusted to a scoring bow which conforms to the curvature of the continuous glass ribbon and the conformable nosing is then engaged with a first surface 202 of the continuous glass ribbon. The continuous glass ribbon is then scored along the scoring line on a second surface 203 of the continuous glass ribbon opposing to a nosing contact line. The bow of the conformable nosing is then readjusted to a separation bow such that the conformable nosing is at least partially disengaged from the first surface, and a bending moment is applied to the continuous glass ribbon to separate the glass sheet at the scoring line. Application of the bending moment reengages the continuous glass ribbon with the conformable nosing and conforms the curvature of the continuous glass ribbon to the separation bow of the conformable nosing.
