The operator's cabin (20) is mounted to rest on the straddle carrier's (10) top frame (15) with the aid of a separate intermediate frame, which in a situation where the straddle carrier (10) is falling over and the portal frame (11) is crashing to the ground is allowed to move in the straddle carrier's transverse direction. The intermediate frame is equipped with a brake device (23) or with corresponding brake devices to receive and absorb the kinetic energy of the operator's cabin (20) and to bring about a controlled movement and a decelerating force for the operator's cabin before the movement stops in a situation where the straddle carrier (10) is falling over.

    • The invention concerns a straddle carrier, which comprises a portal body (11), to which belong essentially vertical supporting pillars (13a, 13b) and an upper body (15) connecting them at the top, and on each side of the straddle carrier (10) at the lower end of the supporting pillars (13a, 13b) there are wheels (12) carrying the portal body (11). In between the supporting pillars (13a, 13b) under the upper body (15) necessary means are arranged for gripping the container load, and resting on the upper body (15) necessary hoisting devices are mounted for hoisting and supporting the container load. The means for gripping the container load comprise two container spreaders (16a, 16b), which are arranged in parallel in relation to the straddle carrier's (10) driving direction and which both are equipped each with its own hoisting beam structure (20a, 20b). The hoisting devices for hoisting and supporting the container load comprise an own separate hoisting mechanism arranged for each container spreader (16a, 16b). Each hoisting mechanism is connected separately through hoisting ropes (28a, 28b) to a corresponding hoisting beam structure (20a, 20b) for handling parallel container loads independently of each other.

When the device is a transport straddle carrier that operates in a cargo terminal between a crane and a container interchange area, the automatic charging system includes a power supply station arranged in the terminal area, provided with a power supply head, whereby the container straddle carrier includes a charging head connected to the power storage and coupling to the power supply station.
