    • Abstract COMPRESSION OF HIGH BIT-DEPTH IMAGES 5 A method of storing an image is disclosed. A high bit-depth frequency-domain representation of the image is received and divided into a first bit-plane portion and a second bit-plane portion. The first bit-plane portion has a higher bit-plane than the second bit-plane portion. Each of the first bit-plane portion and the second bit-plane portion is partitioned into a plurality of partitions. At least one partition from the second bit-plane portion is inserted 10 into the plurality of partitions of the first bit-plane portion to produce a plurality of arranged partitions of the image. The arranged partitions of the image is stored. 991878_Final (5394750v1) -7/ 13 700 Start Receiving a high bit-depth 701 frequency-domain representation of the image Dividing the high bit-depth 710 frequency information into a high bit-plane portion and a low bit-plane portion Quantize the high bit-plane 720 portion and the low bit-plane portion Partition the high bit-plane 730 portion and the low bit-plane portion into a plurality of quality partitions Store the quality partitions 740 from the high bit-plane and the low bit-plane with priority based on overall quality End Fig. 7 5394717vl

    • Abstract A method of transcoding a delta row encoded image by receiving the delta row encoded image comprising terms comprising an offset (1435) and replacement bytes (1438) for each changed portion to the exclusion of storing unchanged portions; subdividing the delta row encoded 5 image into a plurality of delta row encoded tiles based on predetermined tile boundaries (105 108); determining (801 -> 1006, 1005), for a row of the delta row encoded image, terms comprising a tile offset and replacement bytes for each changed portion within a delta row encoded tile the tile offsets and the replacement bytes being determined to allow for independent processing of the differentially encoded tiles; determining (805 -> 300, 1305) 10 edges within each of the delta row encoded tiles based on the determined tile offsets, bypassing an edge detection process for unchanged portions of the differentially encoded tile; and transcoding (2809) the delta row encoded image by encoding the identified edges P2'515X1I /11150340v1
