    • An optical pickup of an optical disk drive. The optical pickup includes a laser beam source for generating a laser beam; a pickup base having an objective lens for projecting the laser beam generated from the laser beam source to an information recording surface of an optical disk; a variation adjusting plate which is movably disposed on the pickup base to be moved in vertical and lateral directions, and has a rotational hole formed at a central portion thereof; and a rotation adjusting plate including a rotational section having a predetermined curvature which is inserted into the rotational hole of the variation adjusting plate, and with a laser beam source fixed therein, the rotation adjusting plate being rotated with respect to the variation adjusting plate. An optical system including a collimating lens and a reflective mirror is fixed to the pickup base. Since the light path with respect to the field angle and the beam shift is adjusted by moving and/or rotating the light emitting point of the laser beam source with respect to the light axis of the collimating lens, the size of the optical pickup becomes smaller. Further, since the collimating lens and the light source are fixed to the respective structures, the light path is controlled regardless of the focal distance of the collimating lens. Accordingly, if the focal distance of the collimating lens has to be lengthened, the beam shift and the field angle can be precisely adjusted without enlarging the optical pickup.

    • An optical pickup assembly having an elastically supported tilt mechanism. The optical pickup assembly includes a bobbin at which an objective lens is mounted and an elastic support member which supports the bobbin in elastic motion with respect to a holder installed at a base. A focus coil and a tracking coil are installed at the bobbin and form a conducting path for driving the objective lens in a focusing direction and a tracking direction. Tilt coils are installed at one side of the bobbin and form a conductive path for driving tilt of the objective lens. A first magnet and a first yoke generate an electromagnetic force to driving the objective lens together with the current carrying focus coil and tracking coil. A second magnet and a second yoke generate an electromagnetic force to driving the objective lens together with the current carrying tilt coils. A position detecting sensor measures relative inclination of the objective lens with respect to a disk, and a balance member coupled to the bobbin to balance the weight of the tilt coils by applying weight corresponding to the weight of the tilt coils at positions symmetrically opposite to the positions of the tilt coils.

    • A compatible optical pickup including an optical unit and a focusing unit. The optical unit emits a short wavelength light for high-density recording media and a long wavelength light for low-density recording media, directs the short and long wavelength light to a recording medium, receives lights reflected by the recording medium, and detects an information reproduction signal and/or an error signal from the received lights. The focusing unit focuses light received from the optical unit to form a light spot on a recording surface of the recording medium, diffracts the short wavelength light into a zero order light and the long wavelength light into a second order light to be used as effective light for recording and/or reproduction. Thus, a high-density recording medium and a low-density recording medium having different thicknesses can be compatibly used.

    • An optical pickup and an optical recording and/or reproducing apparatus adopting the same are provided. The optical pickup includes an optical unit, first and second objective lenses, and an optical path switching unit. The optical unit illuminates light onto an information storage medium and receives light reflected from the information storage medium to detect an information signal and/or an error signal. The first and the second objective lenses focus incident light to form a light spot on an information storage surface of the information storage medium. The optical path switching unit selectively directs the light incident from the optical unit to one of the first and second objective lenses. In the optical pickup, since the light quantity directed to a plurality of objective lenses may be maximized, optical efficiency is increased and thus high-speed operation may be attained.
