    • Provided is an apparatus that enables improvement of efficiency of up/downstream packet tensception by reflecting a plurality of variables of packet transmission, such as a temporal variety of packet lengths, asymmetry of downstream and upstream traffics, and an instantaneous burst of a traffic amount, on a loop-back-based WDM-PON. The apparatus includes: a downstream code sensor sensing an idle code from a downstream data frame to be transmitted to an optical network terminal (ONT); a trailer transmission controller receiving an idle code sensing signal from the downstream code sensor and forming a trailer of the downstream data frame (hereinafter, a downstream trailer) by adding overhead for a reception control of the downstream data frame by the ONT and a transmission control of an upstream data frame to be loop-back-transmitted from the ONT; an upstream code sensor receiving and sensing a trailer of the loop-back-transmitted upstream data frame (hereinafter, an upstream trailer); and a trailer reception controller receiving overhead information, which is added by the ONT, for a reception control of the upstream data frame from the upstream code sensor and controlling a reception of the upstream data frame.

    • Provided is an optical Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) transmitting apparatus and method for transmitting bipolar data in an optical CDMA system. The optical CDMA transmitting apparatus and method of the present research has a simple structure, including only one optical CDMA encoder and one optical modulator. This technology minimizes multiple access interference by using modified pseudo-noise code in the encoding process, thus improving the optical CDMA transmission performance. The optical CDMA transmitting apparatus includes: an optical CDMA encoding means for encoding lights from the outside into a code or a complement code of the code; and an optical modulation means for transmitting the code or the complement code of the code which is selected in the optical CDMA encoding means based on the polarity (either ‘0’ or ‘1’) of the data inputted from the outside.

A method of controlling an upstream optical wavelength of an ONT in WDM-PON system, the method comprises: determining upstream optical wavelength information of the ONT corresponding to a downstream optical wavelength predetermined to the ONT newly installed by being connected to a network; in an OLT, loading the determined upstream optical wavelength information onto the downstream optical wavelength assigned to the ONT and transmitting the loaded upstream optical wavelength information to the ONT; in the ONT, generating an upstream optical wavelength based on the upstream optical wavelength information transmitted by being loaded on the downstream optical wavelength from the OLT; and in the ONT, loading upstream data onto the generated upstream optical wavelength and transmitting the loaded upstream data to the OLT.

    • Disclosed is a loop-back optical network terminal using a Febry-Perot laser diode as an active type optical modulator in a wavelength division multiplexing based optical network. In addition, a wavelength division multiplexing based optical network having the same is disclosed. The optical network terminal comprises a modulation timing control signal generator receiving a downstream optical signal transmitted from a central office and generating a timing control signal designating a start timing and an end timing for modulating an upstream optical signal to be transmitted from a user to the central office; an upstream data control circuit generating upstream data according to the timing control signal and controlling modulation of the upstream optical signal according to the timing control signal in response to generation of the upstream data; and a modulator receiving the upstream data and directly modulating the upstream data with loop-backing the downstream optical signal to produce the upstream optical signal and then output it to the central office.

The termination device contained in a termination end of a WDM/SCM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing/Sub-Carrier Multiplexing) PON (Passive Optical Network) to connect the PON with either a subscriber or an Ethernet service network includes: an Ethernet interface module connected to the Ethernet service network or the subscriber to perform an Ethernet interface function; a WDM/SCM physical layer module physically connected to the WDM/SCM PON to transmit/receive optical signals to/from the WDM/SCM PON; and a MAC (Media Access Control)-bridge module for performing a multiplexing/demultiplexing operation based on a MAC address upon receipt of transmission/reception frames, and reconstructing preambles of the frames while being classified according to channels so that individual Ethernet frames are matching-processed while being classified according to SCM channels of the WDM/SCM physical layer module.
