    • A color changer has a valve block for connecting a plurality of coating material lines to an application device. The valve block has a parallelepiped housing. The housing has a central color channel with an axial direction and contains valve bores for receiving valves and a length of a central color channel is as short as possible with a simultaneous supply of many paint feed lines. A first number of parallel valve bores open into the color channel at first openings, a second number of parallel valve bores open into the color channel at second openings on the opposite side of the color channel and offset in the axial direction with respect to the first number of valve bores. A third number of parallel valve bores open into the color channel at third openings and a fourth number of parallel valve bores open into the color channel at fourth openings.

    • A process for coating, in particular for painting, individual objects or small-series batches with a small quantity of paint uses a plurality of atomizers 2, 3, 4 connected one behind the other to a main supply line 5, at one end/start 6 of which a paint-supply unit 7 is arranged. Only the quantity of paint which is required for the painting job and an additional minimal residual quantity are introduced into the main supply line 5, irrespective of the length and the actual capacity of the main supply line 5, e.g. a paint quantity less than the volume capacity of the main supply line. The contents of the main supply line 5 are forced, by at least one pig 32, which is pushed through the line 5 by a pushing medium, to the atomizers 2, 3, 4, and the contents are then at least substantially completely discharged there.

    • An apparatus and method for painting a workpiece while switching paint colors between successive painting cycles includes a paint supply switching device, a paint feed line connected to the paint supply switching device, a separating element adapted to move back and forth in at least a portion of the paint feed line, first and second receiver stations adapted to receive the separating element at the end positions of its travel in the paint feed line, and a paint spray nozzle at a terminal end of the paint feed line. The separating element is actively held in the first receiver station while paint of a first color is supplied through the paint feed line and sprayed from the nozzle onto a workpiece. To switch to a paint of a second color, the supply of the first paint is terminated, the separating element is released from the first receiver station, and a pushing medium pushes the separating element through the paint feed line, while residual paint is pushed from the paint feed line out through the spray nozzle. The separating element forms a sealing barrier between the pushing medium and the residual paint. Sensors detect the arrival of the separating element in the second receiver station, and the flow of pushing medium is terminated to avoid spraying the pushing medium out through the spray nozzle. Then a pushing medium pushes the separating element back into the first receiver station.

    • In a method of cleaning a paint application system when switching between two different types or colors of paint, at least a predominant portion of the first paint (35) remaining in a paint line (3) is caused to flow back into its paint supply container (5). Then the entire paint line is flushed out using a flushing medium, before supplying the second paint through the paint line. In this manner, the paint remaining in the painting system at the end of a painting cycle is not wasted, but rather is saved to later be reused. A paint application apparatus includes a paint supply switching device (4), at least two paint supply containers (5 to 8), a paint spray nozzle (2), and a paint line (3) connecting the color switching device (4) to the spray nozzle (2). Two receiver stations (28) and (31) are interposed in the paint line (3), and a shuttle element in the form of a pipe cleaner swab (29) is arranged in the paint line (3) so as to be able to shuttle back and forth between the two receiver stations. A pressure medium or flushing medium can be introduced into the paint line (3) between the first receiver station (28) and the spraying nozzle (2), so as to push the pipe cleaner swab (29) through the paint line (3) to the second receiver station (31). Thereby, the paint remaining in the paint line (3) is pushed back into the paint supply container.
