摘要： A communications network (e.g. fibre to the home (FTTH) or wireless) comprises a head end, to which outstations are coupled via a shared point-to-multipoint medium. The head end is arranged to transmit downstream to the outstations a sequence of frames comprising data frames and command frames. The command frames marshal control of upstream transmissions from the outstations. A first downstream command frame directed to a specific outstation indicates the beginning of a timeslot, and also indicates the timeslot duration (including an indefinite duration). Where the duration is indefinite, a second command frame directed to at least the same outstation indicates the end of the allotted time slot. Further methods are provided to optimise timeslot allocation, and to support addition and removal of outstations on the network.

摘要： A method, apparatus, and software for providing lifeline service during power failure affecting Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) in a Digital Subscriber Loop (DSL) arranged to carry voice traffic in band rather than on a separate analogue POTS band. The arrangement provides a reduced service, capable of supporting at least one voice call, to operate during such power failure and, where a single call is in progress during power failure, that call may be maintained during the transition from DSL to analogue POTS lifeline service. Where a call is in progress upon power restoration, the lifeline POTS service may be maintained until completion of the call so as not to interrupt a potential lifeline call.

The plating media may also include peptone and sulfapyridine to further inhibit Citrobacter growth. The media is highly preferential for Salmonella, giving a greater number of Salmonella positives, and reduced competitive organisms. When incorporated with drag swab methodology employing skim milk or evaporated milk as a holding media, which may advantageously include novobiocin to suppress unwanted bacterial growth, coupled with a tetrathionate-culturing broth or other selective enrichment broth, the plating media completes a highly sensitive assay for the detection of Salmonella, particularly keyed for poultry and livestock handling structures, and for veterinary and human clinical laboratory applications.

A method of operating a digital subscriber loop modem arrangement under a fault condition so as to provide at least a voice over DSL service on a digital subscriber line in which data and voice traffic are transported on a plurality of carriers, the method comprising the steps of: replacing the data with random data, disabling those data carriers on which the random data is transported, and maintaining transmission of those carriers transporting the voice traffic.

摘要： An orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) transmission system, e.g. for tranmitting data traffic over a telephone subscriber twisted pair loop, includes a transmitter for generating sets of time division samples in respective channels corresponding to an input data sequence comprising a series of bits, and a receiver coupled to the transmitter via the transmission path. The receiver incorporates a time variant digital filter having a plurality of elements one for each said channel, and Fourier transform means for recovering the data stream from the outputs of said filter elements. The time variant digital filter comprises a set of wavelet filters one for each transmission channel and whose tap weights are determined so as to provide specific interference rejection.
