    • A self-contained button attachment kit includes a pair of buttons, fastener clips and a tool for dispensing a fastener from a fastener clip to reattach a button to an article of clothing. The tool includes a single, hollow needle, a holder adapted to retain the needle and buttons, a handle telescopingly mounted on the holder, a spring-biased ejection mechanism connected to the handle, a front cap removably coupled to the handle over the needle and a rear cap removably coupled to the handle for storing fastener clips. In operation, the front cap serves as an anvil that supports the article and button to be attached. With a fastener clip loaded into the holder, the needle is then inserted through the pair of items. Displacement of the handle relative to the holder causes an ejection rod to dispense the cross-bar of a fastener through the needle, thereby completing the attachment process.

    • Apparatus for optically determining the temperature of an object in an environment at elevated temperature provides enhanced measurement accuracy by sensing radiation from the object in two or more different wavebands of radiation. The information derived therefrom is cyclically sampled and processed to provide corrected emissivity of the object. The temperature of the object is accurately determined from the corrected emissivity and sensed radiation therefrom. The apparatus includes a radiation detector for receiving radiation during an interval, an optical filter structure with a plurality of optical filters of different radiation transmissive characteristics, and sampling circuits for receiving the radiation signal from the detector during a selected period within the interval during which radiation is supplied to the detector; wherein the selected period is shorter than the interval, is determined in response to the cyclic operation of the filter structure, and contains the least amlitude gradient.

    • Apparatus for securing or retaining a heatsink. The heatsink retention apparatus includes a heatsink module that cooperates with first and second spring loaded latches secure to a circuit board on opposing sides of a heat-generating component. The heatsink module includes a handle pivotally secured to opposing sides of the heatsink body, and bails pivotally secured to the handle. In addition, the bails extend downward to dispose a lower bail member adjacent the spring loaded latches. As the handle pivots between a first position to raise the bails and a second position to lower the bails, the bails automatically move from a locked position to an unlocked position. Each of the spring loaded latches include a hook and at least one pre-loaded spring to transfer a minimum downforce to the lower bail members when the bails are raised. Accordingly, embodiments may be operated from the top of the heatsink without the use of tools, while providing a desired downforce over a range of heatsink heights.
