    • An information handling system plays audio provided from a portable audio device at an information handling system audio subsystem in operating and powered down states of the information handling system. In the operating state, digital audio information is communicated from the portable audio device through a serial link for rendering at the information handling system into an analog audio signal presented by the audio subsystem. In the powered down state, digital audio information is rendered at the portable audio device and communicated as an analog audio signal through the serial link to the information handling system. A system module at the information handling system selectively switches the serial link to interface with the audio subsystem and play the analog signal as audible sounds. The system module supplies power to the audio subsystem to support playing the analog signal with the information handling system in the powered down state.

    • Audio information coexists with best efforts data on a wireless network, such as a wireless local area network, by defining a backoff dedicated to communicate of audio information and using undedicated resources to communicate best efforts data. The backoff has a periodic interval that corresponds to the sample rate of the audio information so that a set of audio frame slots communicated at the start of a backoff interval has a length of time to complete communication. The set of audio frame slots has, for instance, an audio frame slot for each audio endpoint interfaced with the network. Periodic backoffs ensures synchronized audio playback by dedicating an antenna to communication of audio frames at the sample rate of the audio information, while supporting best efforts network communication when audio information is not being communicated.

    • A system, method and apparatus are provided for creating a secure data path using a peer-to-peer enabled Peripheral Component Interconnect-Express (PCI-E) data communications path. In an exemplary implementation, a content receiver and rendering subsystem are provided, each aware of the other. The content receiver is operable to receive protected content from a source such as a set-top box. After authenticating the rendering subsystem as an approved content recipient, the content receiver preferably communicates decrypted content signals to the rendering subsystem via a peer-to-peer enabled PCI-E communications channel between the device systems. Once desired rendering processing operations have been performed on the decrypted content, the rendering subsystem may encrypt the rendered content before transmission to an associated display device for presentation.
