Preferred embodiments allow a razor head to swivel and also to pivot about an axis normal to a central axis of the razor and normal to an imaginary axis defined by the points of attachment of the razor to a razor head. According to another aspect, an engagement arm comprises a novel slot for controlling the movement of the engagement during shaving, as well as during loading/unloading of a razor head. Embodiments of this invention enable the razor head to maintain optimum shave relation with the skin regardless of the angular differences between the cartridge head, razor handle/grip and shaving motion during shaving.

Movement of one of the razor cartridge or the shaving aid body in a first direction causes the other of the razor cartridge or the shaving aid body to move in a second direction substantially opposite the first direction. As a result, the positions of the shaving aid body and the razor cartridge are continuously adjusted to maintain the contact surface of the shaving aid body approximately co-planar with the cutting edges of the razor blades within the razor cartridge.

The razor cartridge can be mounted either temporarily or permanently to a handle and the cutting edges of each of the first and second pair of razor blades face one another so that during a shaving operation, the razor cartridge can cut hair when drawn over a user's skin in either of two generally opposite directions.

In an embodiment, there is provided a two-component, control-release device having a sheath layer made from thermoplastic resins with openings in its skin engaging surface, coextruded with a core region containing shaving aids. At least one end of the device is at least partially closed to inhibit the ingress of water at that end of the device and to inhibit the release of the shaving aid from that end of the device during a normal shaving operation. Enclosure of the end of the device can be by addition of an end cap, by application of a film of a suitable sealant or by suitably joining opposed inner walls of a portion of the sheath extending beyond the core.

摘要： In an apparatus for releasably retaining a disposable razor cartridge, a handle which includes an interior area defined by a housing section is provided. A cartridge retainer is at least partially positioned in the interior area and includes a substantially rigid web positioned within the interior area and pivotally coupled to the housing section. A pair of retaining arms are each spaced apart from the other and projecting in generally the same direction from the web. Each retaining arm includes a portion projecting outwardly from the housing section terminating in the cartridge engaging end for releasably retaining a disposable razor cartridge. A plastic hinge is integral with and extends between the pair of retaining arms so that upon exertion of a force thereon, in response to the disposable razor cartridge being pressed into a user's skin, the web section pivots within the housing section of the plastic hinge thereby forcing the retaining arms to move relative to each other and the disposable razor cartridge to pivot and follow the contours of a user's skin. Upon removal of the force, the plastic hinge provides the restoring moment to return the web and thereby the disposable razor cartridge to a neutral position.
