    • A point of sale printer includes a magnetic reader for processing transactions and payment by check at a checkout point of a retail establishment. The printer includes a magnetic or MICR reader located at a predetermined point on the printer's document travel path and a print head located at the same point on the document travel path but laterally offset from the MICR reader to allow the printer to print customer receipts and a journal as well as reading MICR information from checks and endorsing the check after it is cleared. A pressure pad is used with the magnetic read head of the MICR reader which utilizes a pressure film which flexes when a document is inserted between the magnetic read head and the pressure film to provide a spring loading force on the magnetic read head while still allowing the document to be moved smoothly past the magnetic read head. A method for processing checks using the printer utilizes bidirectional motion of the check along the document travel path to magnetize the MICR information, read the MICR information and print the endorsement on the check.

    • In the forming of an article by blow molding parisons into conformity with cavities of an array of mold sections parisons in the form of tubes are extruded from an extruder into an array of neck molds on a head, the head is moved axially away from the extruder to define the parisons, mold sections are closed about the parisons and the parisons are blown outwardly and a take out mechanism grasps and removes the containers after the mold sections are opened. The apparatus for application of labels to the hollow blown plastic articles includes a label carrier mounted for reciprocating movement between the open mold sections and supporting an array of spaced vacuum pick up devices. The carrier is mounted for reciprocating movement past a source of labels exterior to the blow molding mechanism so that labels are picked up by each of the vacuum pick-up devices, and the carrier is moved between the longitudinally spaced array of mold sections, the vacuum devices are actuated to deliver the array of labels to the cavities of the array of open mold sections at the same time as the take out mechanism is moved adjacent the mold sections to grasp the blown containers so that the labels are delivered with substantially no delay in cycle time.

    • Controlling an airflow passing into an electronic component cabinet includes passing an airflow into the electronic component cabinet through a first passage having a first filter, sensing a parameter of the airflow passing through the first passage, detecting a change in the parameter of the first airflow associated with a flow restriction at the first filter, and shifting a first flap from a first position allowing the airflow to pass unrestricted through the first passage, to a second position, wherein the first flap creates a flow restriction for the airflow passing though the first passage, and triggers an actuation mechanism based on the change in parameter of the first airflow. Controlling the airflow further includes opening a second flap that exposes a second passage having a second filter based on the triggering of the switch, and passing an airflow into the electronic component cabinet through the second passage.
