    • A television receiver includes a chassis having a digital tuner for generating local oscillator signals for tuning the receiver to respective channels in response to binary signals representing corresponding channel numbers and a signal processing unit for controlling at least one characteristic of the receiver such as the sound level, in response to binary signals representing the controllable characteristic. The receiver also includes a microcomputer including a RAM (Random Access Memory) with at least one memory location for storing binary signals representing the present time and a plurality of memory locations for storing binary signals representing future times and channel numbers of channels to be tuned at those times. A control portion of the microcomputer causes binary signals representing the channel number associated with a future time to be coupled to the digital tuner when the present time matches the future time. A keyboard having ten digit keys for generating binary signals representing the decimal digits between 0 and 9 and two characteristic keys to generate binary signal representing an increase and a decrease in the controllable characteristic is provided to enable user control of various operating modes of the receiver. When a user operates digit keys to form a number within a predetermined range of channel numbers, e.g., 2-83, the control portion of the microcomputer causes a channel to be tuned. Subsequently, operation of digit keys within the predeterined range of channel numbers causes the channel to be changed and operation of the characteristic keys causes the controllable characteristic to change. When a user operates digit keys to form a number not within the predetermined range of channel numbers, the control portion of the microcomputer causes power to be decoupled from the chassis. Subsequently, in response to the operation of a predetermined one of the characteristic keys, the control portion causes binary signals generated in response to the operation of the digit keys to be selectively coupled to either the RAM location associated with the present time or to the RAM location for future selections.

    • Time-keeping apparatus includes a microcomputer having a normal, relatively high power consumption mode of operation and a standby relatively low power consumption mode of operation. The AC power supply includes energy storage providing standby power for operation during power interruption. A controllable delay arrangement causes the microcomputer to operate in a cyclical mode with a relatively long duration in the standby mode of operation and a relatively short duration in the normal mode of operation. The time period of the relatively long duration, having been previously stored in memory, is utilized for incrementing the time-keeping during the relatively short duration in the normal mode until the end of the power interruption ends the cylical mode of operation.

    • In a tuning system for a television receiver including a memory for storing binary signals representing tuning voltages corresponding to various channels a viewer may select, during a tuning voltage setup mode in which the binary signals representing the tuning voltages are generated in response to viewer control, a multiplexer couples predetermined selected ones of the binary signals representing the tuning voltages to a digital channel number display unit to provide a viewer with an indication of the relative tuning position. The multiplexer also couples binary signals representing the letter "A" to the channel number display during the tuning voltage setup mode to distinguish the tuning voltage setup mode from other modes of operation of the tuning system. In addition, during a channel selection setup mode, in which a viewer selects the channels he does not wish skipped during normal operation of the tuning system, the multiplexer couples binary signals representing the letters "CH" to the channel number display to distinguish the channel selection tuning mode from the tuning voltage setup mode and the normal operating mode.

    • An interconnection system for an audio and video component entertainment system includes a single conductor audio bus serially coupled between each of the video and audio components transfers audio signal in a "daisy-chain" manner among the components. The video components are grouped together separately from the audio components along the audio bus and both types of components supply and/or receive audio signals from the bus. A first switch in series with the audio bus separates the audio bus into first and second sections so as to allow simultaneous and independent audio signal transfer among the video and audio components connected to the separated sections of the audio bus.
