摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved bone anchoring device.SOLUTION: A bone anchoring device comprises: a bone anchoring element 1 or 1' having a shaft 2 for anchoring in a bone and a head 3 or 3'; and a receiving part 5 for coupling a rod 6 to the bone anchoring element. The receiving part comprises a first portion 9 with a first end 9a, a second end 9b and a U-shaped recess 12 for receiving the rod. The recess 12 extends from the first end 9a in the direction of the second end 9b, thereby forming two free legs 12a and 12b. The receiving part further comprises a second portion 16 at the side of the second end 9b opposite to the first end for accommodating the head 3 or 3', and the second portion has a free end 17 and is flexible so as to allow introduction and clamping of the head. The head 3 or 3' is locked by means of exerting pressure with the rod onto the locking ring 8 resulting in compression of the second portion of the receiving part, and the locking ring 8 is mounted to the receiving part from the free end 17 of the second portion 16.

The receiving part includes a top end and a bottom end; a rod receiving part with a channel for receiving the rod; and a head receiving part for accommodating a head of the bone anchoring element. The head receiving part has an open end and is flexible so as to allow introduction and clamping of the head. The receiving part further includes a locking ring embracing the head receiving portion. The head is clamped by pressing onto the locking ring with the rod to move the locking ring towards the open end. The locking ring has a surface portion configured to contact each of the rods in a circumferential direction in at least two distinct contact areas.

A rod receiving portion (9) has two cutouts (24) at both ends of the channel extending from the bottom of the channel to a second end (9b) of the rod receiving portion. The locking ring includes two projections (81, 83) located diametrically opposite to each other, wherein when the locking ring is in a position in which the head is not locked, the projection is configured to extend through the cutout (24) and into the channel (12). An first engagement portion (83, 85) is provided on the locking ring for engaging a second engagement portion (25) at an inner wall of the channel to hold the locking ring in a position in which the head is pivotable in the head receiving portion but is prevented from removal therefrom.

The locking member includes a top end and a bottom end facing the pressurizing member, and a deformable first portion 85 and a second portion are provided at the bottom end. When the locking member is advanced into the channel in the direction of the central axis C, the deformable first portion 85 comes into contact with the pressurizing member 7 first and is deformed resulting in a load applied to the pressurizing member that clamps the head, and the second portion comes into contact with the rod and clamps the rod.
