    • Delivery of energy by a defibrillator or other medical device is inhibited when the processor or software that controls a module of the medical device operates abnormally. A windowed watchdog timer (WWDT) incorporated into one module of the medical device is used to control the operation of other modules of the medical device via a software-based extension technique. As a result, the risk of harm to the patient is reduced compared to medical devices that incorporate over-limit type watchdog timers. In addition, costs associated with implementing WDTs in multiple modules of the defibrillator are avoided, thereby lowering the overall cost of implementation.

    • An NMDA antagonist (such as ketamine) is administered with a safener (such as clonidine) in patients suffering from neurologic disorders other than pain. The ketamine is adminsitered at a dosage that causes slurred speech, for a span of several days. This treatment enables a patient's nervous system to return to a healthy “set point”, also called an improved stable neural homeostasis, in a manner similar to a broken bone healing itself if protected from jostling and reinjury by a cast. In at least some patients, this treatment can ease problems such as addictions to illegal or pain-killing drugs, nicotine, or alcohol, compulsive or criminal behavioral problems, severe depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, phobias, etc. It may also provide some relief in some patients for problems such as chronic fatigue, chemical sensitivities, allergies, autoimmune disorders, and diabetes.

    • Rotary disk saw is adapted to be mounted on an earth excavator or the like, having an articulating and rotatable member for a boom. To this excavating boom, which normally carries a shovel, the saw carrying unit is attached and includes a compound pivot means adapted for orthogonal and transverse rotation about the bucket, the same carrying a saw carrying boom and a carriage which travels up and down the boom, hydraulically driven, to locate a sub-carriage which transversely locates a rotary disk saw. By a relative rotating of compound pivot means and the boom and by locating the carriage and sub-carriage, as required, the saw may be positioned onto a working piece which is to be cut. Such devices are especially suitable for demolition of highway bridges and the like.
