摘要： A sealed capacitor, which may be hermetic, having a generally flat, planar geometry, is described. The capacitor includes at least one electrode provided by a metallic substrate having a capacitive material contacted thereto. The coated substrate can provide at least one of the casing side walls itself or, be connected to the side wall. A most preferred form of the capacitor has the conductive substrate provided with the capacitive material formed from an ultrasonically generated aerosol.

摘要： An electrochemical cell including an alkali metal anode and a cathode, one of the anode or cathode being connected to a structure for making electrical connection from a load to the cell, the other of the anode or cathode having main and alternate portions, a main terminal connected to the main anode or cathode portion for making electrical connection between a load and the cell, and an alternate terminal connected to the alternate anode or cathode portion for making electrical connection between a load and the cell, so that the main anode or cathode portion first is discharged with the alternate portion held in reserve, whereupon when the main portion reaches end of life the alternate anode or cathode portion is discharged. The main and alternate anode or cathode portions are insulated from each other, and the anode preferably is of lithium. There is also provided a voltage responsive switch means in combination with the cell and connected electrically between a load and the main and alternate terminals for connecting the main terminal initially to the load and then disconnecting the main terminal and connecting the alternate terminal to the load when the main portion reaches end of life. The cell can be provided with a casing of electrically conductive material with one of the anode or cathode being connected to the casing for making electrical connection to the load through the casing.

摘要： A deposition process for coating a substrate with an ultrasonically generated aerosol spray, is described. The resultant droplets are much smaller in size than those produced by conventional processes, thereby providing the present coating having an increased surface area. When the coated substrate is an electrode in a capacitor, a greater surface area results in an increased electrode capacitance.

摘要： In an alkali metal-halogen or oxyhalide electrochemical cell wherein an alkali metal anode, preferably lithium, has a surface in operative contact with a halogen-containing or oxyhalide cathode/electrolyte including a solvent if necessary, an electrode covering, preferably applied on the anode surface comprising a non-fabric, continuous and solid film of substrate material having a uniform unit weight, is described. The substrate material is perforated to provide for ion flow therethrough and coated with organic electron donor material, or other suitable coating material. The film substrate material preferably comprises a mechanically perforated synthetic polyester film material, and the film is prepared by contacting with a solution of the organic material and solvent followed by drying. The resulting coated film is flexible and is applied to the operative surface of the electrode thereby covering the same, preferably adhered to the surface by pressing. The flexible film can be applied equally well to electrode surfaces which are either smooth and flat or irregular.
