    • A process for producing foamed particles of a polyolefin resin which comprises dispersing polyolefin resin particles in water in a closed vessel, feeding a volatile blowing agent into the closed vessel, heating the dispersion to a temperature above the softening point of the polyolefin resin particles but below their melting point, opening a discharge port provided within the closed vessel below the water surface and releasing the aqueous dispersion containing the polyolefin resin particles impregnated with the blowing agent into an atmosphere kept at a lower pressure than the pressure within the closed vessel; wherein (i) when the last portion of the aqueous dispersion containing the polyolefin resin particles impregnated with the blowing agent is released from the closed vessel, the pressure within the closed vessel is at least 5 kg/cm2.G, and (ii) in order to maintain the pressure within the closed vessel at the time of releasing the last portion of the aqueous dispersion from the closed vessel at at least 5 kg/cm2.G, a pressurized inorganic gas is introduced into the closed vessel before the heating of the aqueous dispersion is started, provided that the inorganic gas is not freshly supplied to the closed vessel after starting the releasing of the aqueous dispersion.

    • PURPOSE: A modified ethylene polymer good in moldability, adhesive property, and blendability, prepared by graft-modifying a specified ethylene polymer with vinyl acetate and having a specified vinyl acetate content and a xylene-insoluble portion.
      CONSTITUTION: A modified ethylene polymer prepared by subjecting an ethylene polymer of a crystallinity of 4W50% and vinyl acetate to a graft reaction and having a vinyl acetate content (including vinyl acetate initially contained, if any) of 5W70wt% and a boiling xylene-insoluble portion of below 1wt%. An ethylene polymer having a crystallinity exceeding 50% is not desirable as the above ethylene polymer because the diffusion of vinyl acetate is difficult during impregnation, and it is difficult to obtain a uniformly graft-modified polymer, whereas an ethylene polymer having a crystallinity of below 4% has poor moldability and so is undesirable.

    • PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer useful as expandable polymer beads, etc., having a narrow particle size dstribution, by subjecting a monomer, e.g., styrene, etc. to bulk polymerization to a specific viscosity, feeding the polymer to water, followed by adding a specified amount of a monomer having no polymerization initator, and carrying out suspension polymerization.
      CONSTITUTION: First, polymerizable ethylenic unsaturated monomers consisting essentially of styrene is subjected to bulk polymerization in the presence of a polymerization initiator until a viscosity of the reaction system at 20°C becomes 100W 10,000 centipoise to give a bulky styrene (co)polymer, which is fed to water containing a suspension stabilizer. 200W900pts.wt. polymerizable ethylenic unsaturated monomers consisting essentially of styrene containing no polymerization initiator based on 100pts.wt. monomer subjected to bulk polymerization is added to the reaction system and subjected to suspension polymerization. The polymerizationinitiator for suspension polymerization is added to the reaction system before the bulk polymer is fed to the suspension polymerization system.
