SOLUTION: In the exhaust emission control method or the exhaust emission control device for purifying exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine by an exhaust purification catalyst, especially the nitrogen oxide purification catalyst, before the exhaust gas enters the exhaust purification catalyst, the sulfur content contained in the exhaust gas is collected and removed by the sulfur content collecting material composed of complex oxide principally consisting of Sr and Ti or complex oxide containing K in addition to Sr and Ti.
