    • A lane control system for a bowling center having a plurality of bowling lanes comprises:

      a plurality of game control units (16, 74) each including a central processing unit (200) coupled to a display device (20L, 20R) and a bowler input means for interfacing with the operation of a bowling game, each said central processing unit operating on-line under the control of a game control program in response to bowling game operation commands received from the bowler input means to control an associated pin setting device;
      a manager's control system (26) including a central processing unit (32) coupled to a display device (72) and operator input means (42) for interfacing with the operation of a manager's control system; and
      communication means (27) for electrically connecting the central processing unit of said manager's control system with the central processing unit of each of said game control units.

      A switching means (40, 73, 74) is provided which operatively associates with said manager's control system for selectively coupling said manager's control system operator input means to a selected one of said game control units so that said manager's control system operator input means interacts with the central processing unit of the selected game control unit to provide on-line control of the operation of the bowling game for the selected game control unit.

    • A bowling center system (10) includes a plurality of lane pair control systems (16) each including a pinsetting device (14) for each lane (12), a pinsetter control unit, a game control unit, a bowler input station (18) and a pair of overhead display moni­tors (20R, 20L). The game control unit (16) is operable under the control of a game control program stored in a memory for automati­cally operating the pinsetter control units during game play to selectively set a sequence of pin patterns on the lane (12), which patterns may comprise any array of pins. The game control unit (16) responsive to pin fall data received from the gamesetter generates scoring information which is displayed using video graphic displays on the overhead monitors (20R, 20L). The game control program can be any one of a plurality of dif­ferent game programs which may be downloaded to the memory from a memory associated with the manager's control termi­nal. According to the particular game program, the number of bowling frames the game may vary as well as the number of balls and pins utilized in each frame. The manager's con­trol system (26) provides accounting control over the bowling center system (10) and is operable to override operation of a selected game control unit as necessary. A plurality of remote terminals (21) are provided asscciated with selected ones of said lane pair control systems (16). Each remote terminal system includes a keyboard (24) and a display monitor (22). The re­mote terminal (21) operates under the control of the game control unit (16) to allow a user thereof to enter requests for video displays. The video displays include, for example, ball trajectory displays which illustrate the path of the ball on the bowling lane, or dynamic displays, such as for training, generated by video source devices associated with the manag­er's control system (26).

    • A video distribution system especially for an automatic bowling center system, comprises a central control unit; a plurality of video source devices each including means for transmitting a video signal to convey dynamic video information; a plurality of video display terminals remotely located from said central control unit and operable to display dynamic video information responsive to a received video signal; a video communication network coupled to said transmitting means and said display terminals; and switching means operatively associated with said central control unit and coupled in said video communication network for selectively coupling one of said video source device transmitting means to a selected one of said video display terminals to receive the transmitted video signal so that said one video display terminal displays the dynamic video information associated with the received signal. The video signal for transmission may be generated using a memory means storing data representing a plurality of video segments wherein data relating to a selected segment is read out by commandable reading means, converted into a transmittable video signal and coupled to one of the display terminals. When the video display system is provided in a bowling center system including a plurality of bowling lanes, a plurality of scoring systems and a manager's control system, the manager's control system functions as the central control unit. A manager's communication network may link the manager's control system to the commandable reading means. The bowling center system includes a plurality of lanes, arranged in lane pairs, and a plurality of game control units. The scoring systems may be provided per lane, per lane pair or per game control unit. Each game control unit may have a video switch. There may also be a plurality of user input devices, one for each video display terminal, coupled to the manager's control system or a scoring system whereby video signals may be requested.

    • A manager's control terminal is provided in a bowling center system which includes a plurality of lane pair control systems each including a pinsetting device for each lane, a pinsetter control unit, a game control unit, a bowler input station and a pair of overhead display monitors. A plurality of remote terminals are also provided associated with selected ones of the lane pair control systems. The manager's control system includes a programmed central processing unit connected to a display device, an operator input device and a memory means. The memory means of the manager's control system may store one or more game control programs to be downloaded, on request, to a game control unit via communication means for electrically connecting the processing unit of the manager's control system with the processing units of each game control unit. Similarly, the memory means of the manager's control system may store game scoring programs for one or more bowling games to be transferred on request to a game control unit. The manager's control system may have operatively associated therewith means for selectively coupling the operator input means thereof to a selected game control or game scoring unit so as to interface with the operation of the bowling game for the selected game control unit or game scoring unit. The manager's control system provides accounting control over the bowling center system and is operable to override operation of a selected game control unit as necessary.
