    • In a pneumatic tyre for passenger cars with a tread with a wide ground contact surface and a tread profile with good anti-skidding properties in the wet, the tread has, as main tread grooves, a pair of central vertical grooves (1) which extend linearly on both sides along the central plane (O-O) of the tyre and a pair of second vertical grooves (2), each of which subdivides the area between a central vertical groove (1) and the associated side edge (L-L) of the tread into two zones (II, III) and extends linearly along the circumference. In addition, the tread has a plurality of transverse grooves (3) which obliquely intersect the main grooves (1, 2) over the entire width of the tread in a fishbone pattern, and a plurality of independent blocks (4) which are formed by the combination of the grooves (1, 2, 3). Each transverse groove (3) intersects the tread between the central plane (O-O) of the tyre and the associated central vertical groove (1) and between the associated second vertical groove (2) and the associated side edge (L-L) of the tread at a central angle of intersection of 60 DEG -90 DEG , and between the two associated vertical grooves (1, 2) at a central angle of intersection of 30 DEG -60 DEG with respect to the central plane (O-O) of the tyre.     • A high performance pneumatic radial tire (1) comprises a toroidal carcass (3), a tread (17) radially outside a crown portion of the carcass, a belt layer (10) interposed between the carcass and the tread and having the same width as the tread, and an auxiliary layer (16) arranged between the belt layer and the tread and covering the entire belt layer.     • A low profile pneumatic radial tire comprises at least one carcass ply containing cords arranged substantially at 90 DEG relative to a circumference of a tread, and a belt consisting of at least two belt layers which are composed of metal cords inclined relative to the circumference of the tread and intersected with one another between the adjacent belt layers and which are arranged upon a crown of the carcass. The tread surrounds the crown, and is provided with a pair of circumferential main grooves which are disposed symmetrically with respect to an equatorial plane of the tire and which divide a treading portion of the tread into a central region and axially opposite side regions and which are separated by a distance ranging from 45 to 65% of a maximum width of the tire in the state that the tire is assembled onto a normal rim and inflated at a normal internal pressure. The width of the belt ranges from 110 to 130% of a distance between intersections of an imaginary straight line which tangentially contracts with a top surface of a wear indicator projecting from a bottom of each of the circumferential grooves and which is drawn in parallel with a tire rotary axis and a tire contour line at axially opposite side regions of the tread, and the thickness of a tread rubber at maximum width edges of the tread ranges from 30 to 80% of that at the intersections.
