In order to avoid this disadvantage, the invention calls for a water conduit (14) through which, on completion of the brewing time, hot water from the machine runs without coming into contact with the tea leaves in the tea holder (16). While the tea is brewing, the water conduit (14) is shut off by a second valve (42) which is preferably operated, together with the first valve (36), by lifting and lowering the tea holder (16) together with the water conduit (14).
