    • A process is disclosed to produce a protective cap which can be fitted on the ear channel temperature measurement probe of an infrared radiation thermometer that can be introduced into a body cavity. The protective cap (1) is made of a plastic base body with one open end and an opposite end closed by an infrared radiation-transparent window foil (7). In a first step of the process, at least one hole is pierced in a sheet-, web- or plate-shaped material for forming the base body (3). In a second step, the holed base body material (6) is covered at least in the area of the hole (5) with a window foil (7) made of an infrared radiation-transpare nt plastic and is joined in an immovable manner to the base body (6). This composite body is then shaped into a protective cap during a third step of the process and if required formed down to the final dimensions of the protective cap (1) during a fourth step of the process. A great number of protective caps (1) may thus be produced as in an assembly line in a simple manner and in a very short time.
