    • A method of drilling through a blockage in a flowline using a remotely controlled electrically operated drilling tool that comprises a drill bit, a steering means, a pumping means, and a propulsion system wherein the drilling tool is connected either directly or indirectly to an electric cable and the drill bit is mounted on the steering means, the method comprising: introducing the drilling tool into the flowline; actuating the electrically operated propulsion system to move the drilling tool through the flowline to the location of the blockage; actuating the electrically operated steering means so that the drill bit is aligned with the blockage; actuating the electrically operated drill bit so that the drill bit engages with and drills through the blockage; and actuating the electrically operated pump so that when the drill bit engages with the blockage, fluid that is present in the flowline adjacent the blockage is passed over the cutting surfaces of the drill bit and cuttings from the blockage are transported away from the cutting surfaces of the drill bit suspended in the fluid.

    • A device and method for lining the wall of a wellbore (1) as it is being drilled through a subterranean formation (2) using a drill string having a drill bit on the lower end thereof. The device comprises: (a) a receptacle (5) for a cylindrically gathered pack of flexible tubing capable of being supported around the outside of the drill string at or near the lower end thereof on a plurality of bearings (7) thereby allowing the receptacle (5) to remain stationary while the drill string is rotated; and (b) a radially expandable locking means (8) having means for directly or indirectly attaching a first end of the tubing of the gathered pack, said radially expandable locking means (8) being capable of being expanded against the wellbore wall so as to lock the first end of the flexible tubing in place in the wellbore such that in use movement of the drill string through the wellbore (1) as it is being drilled is capable of causing the flexible tubing to be withdrawn from the cylindrically gathered pack and to be turned inside out thereby providing a liner (15) for the wellbore wall with the outer surface of the tubing of the cylindrically gathered pack forming the inner surface of the liner; and (c) at least one conduit (11) having at least one inlet (13) upstream of the receptacle and at least one outlet (14) downstream of the receptacle; characterised in that at least one pump (16) is located at least partly in the conduit (11) or abutting said inlet (13) or outlet (14) thereof.

    • A method of drilling a second wellbore section ( 12 ) from a first wellbore section ( 10 ) that is lined with a tubular liner ( 11 ) using a remotely controlled electrically powered drilling assembly that is suspended from a cable ( 1 ) and of periodically interrupting the drilling operation to extend the tubular liner into the second wellbore section without having to pull the assembly from the wellbore. The drilling assembly comprises an expansion means ( 2 ), a traction means ( 3 ), and an electrically actuated drill bit ( 6 ). An expandable liner pipe ( 19 ) is introduced into the wellbore by disconnecting a cable connection means ( 15 ) at the surface to separate the upper ( 13 ) and lower ( 14 ) lengths of cable, arranging the expandable liner pipe ( 19 ) concentrically about the upper ( 13 ) or lower ( 14 ) length of cable, reconnecting the cable connection means ( 15 ) to rejoin the upper ( 13 ) and lower ( 14 ) lengths of cable and running the expandable liner pipe ( 19 ) into the wellbore supported on a cable traction means ( 20 ) that is moveable along the cable.
