摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the adhesion strength of, for example, an electrode and a strip conductor on a ceramic molding and to monitor quality by loading the covered ceramic molding into a dipping bath, performing heat treatment, and then evaluating the damage of a covering. SOLUTION: A covered ceramic molding is loaded into a dipping bath and is exposed to a temperature of at least 700 deg.C for heat treatment. In that case, the adhesion strength of the covering is evaluated by inspecting the release of, for example, an electrode, a strip conductor, and a protection layer. In the dipping bath, a dense proton acid that is selected from a group of HCl, H3 PO4 , H2 PO3 , H3 PO2 , H2 SO4 , H2 SO3 , and HNO3 is used. A chemical load due to an exhaust gas constituent can be easily and efficiently simulated by using the acids. Also, a stagnation time in the dipping bath is set to at least one hour, thus simulating the continuation operation of sonde nucleus of, for example, lambda sonde.

SOLUTION: A sensor element is composed of an electrochemical measuring cell 12 and of a heating element 14. The measuring cell 12 comprises a functional-layer-side layer structure 12' which is provided with a first sheet 16 and with a second sheet 18. A reference passage 20 is built integrally in the second sheet 18. A measuring electrode 22 is arranged on the measuring-gas- side surface of the sheet 16. A reference electrode 24 is arranged on the surface of the sheet 16, which is arranged and installed so as to correspond to the reference passage 20. A porous coating layer 26 having a layer thickness of, e.g. 0.1 mm is formed on the measuring electrode 22. The heating element 14 comprises a heating conductor 30 which is buried inside two insulating layers 28, 29. The layer thickness of both insulating layers 28, 29 is nearly equal. An outside coating sheet 32 is formed so as to succeed to the insulating layer 29 on one side.

SOLUTION: The voltage of a voltage source 27 is selected so that the potential difference between an electrode 21 and a heating element 5 becomes positive. An electric field is formed between the electrode 21 and the heating element 5 due to the potential difference and O in is generated at a solid electrolyte 19. An electrical connection is generated between the solid electrolyte 19 and the heating element 5 according to a part where an insulation layer 13 leaks and current flows to the heating element 5. At the same time, the O ion travels along the electric field and changes into oxygen atom and is diffused externally. Discharged electrons are discharged via a voltage source 27, and the current is detected as a leakage current by a current-measuring instrument 29. Also, oxygen holes are generated in the solid electrolyte 19 and reach the surface of a lambda sensor 1 as a black pigmentation part and can be visually recognized, thus estimating the position of the leakage part.
