Date Jul. 4, 1996A measuring sensor for determining the oxygen content in gas mixtures including exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, includes a first electrochemical pump cell and a second electrochemical pump cell; an internal reference gas source; a measuring gas chamber which is connected to the gas mixture; electrodes for the first and the second pump cell; a first pumping voltage (UP1) for the first pump cell and a second pumping voltage (UP2) for the second pump cell; wherein oxygen is pumped into the internal reference gas source by means of the first pumping voltage, wherein a pumping current is driven by the second pumping voltage and is measured as a measure for the partial oxygen pressure, wherein the first pumping voltage (UP1) and the second pumping voltage (UP2) are set such that more oxygen is pumped into the reference gas source by way of the first pumping voltage (UP1) than is pumped out of the reference gas source by the second pumping voltage (UP2), and wherein the first pump cell is acted upon by a first operating voltage (UB1) and the second pump cell is acted upon by a second operating voltage (UB2) so that, under the action of the corresponding Nernst voltages, the first pumping voltage (UP1) is always larger than the second pumping voltage (UP2) at a polarity which is reversed compared to the first pumping voltage (UP1).

摘要： The invention concerns a sensor for determining the oxygen content of gas mixtures, in particular in exhaust gases from internal combustion engines. The sensor comprises: a first pump cell (10) and a second pump cell (20); an internal reference gas source (15) and a chamber (22) for the gas to be measured, which chamber (22) is connected to the gas mixture; electrodes (11, 12, 21) for the first pump cell (10) and the second pump cell (20); and a first pump voltage (UP1) for the first pump cell (10) and a second pump voltage (UP2) for the second pump cell (20). The first pump voltage (UP1) and the second pump voltage (UP2) are set such that more oxygen is pumped into the reference gas source (15) by the first pump voltage (UP1) than is pumped out of the reference gas source (15) by the second pump voltage (UP2). The second pump voltage (UP2) drives a pump flow (IM) which is taken as the measurement of the oxygen content in the gas mixture.

摘要： The invention concerns a polarographic sensor for the determination of certain components in the exhaust from internal combustion engines in order to control the air/fuel ratio. The sensor can be used in exhaust gases from both fuel-rich and fuel-poor mixtures. It includes a first pumping cell (10), whose cathode (12) has a diffusion barrier (14), and a second pumping cell (20) whose anode (24) also has a diffusion barrier (26). Suitable circuitry enables the limiting current delivered by one of the two pumping cells to be used as a signal for control of the fuel/air mixture. The invention also concerns the use of the sensor in the control of the ratio of the components in the fuel/air mixture fed to an internal combustion engine.
