    • Eliamide of formula (I) is new. Also claimed are: (i) a heterocyclic compound with the formula C23H35NO4, an IR spectrum (CHCl3) psi = 1719 cm , 1680 cm and 1632 cm and UV spectrum (CH3OH), lambda max ( iota ) = 223 (19200) and 234 (19300) nm; and (ii) a heterocyclic compound (I') which is prepared by cultivating Sorangium cellulosum DSM 11529 aerobically in a medium which contains carbon and nitrogen sources and mineral salts in the presence of an adsorbing resin, separating cells and the adsorber resin from the culture medium, stirring with a mixture of methanol and acetone, separating supernatant and solids, eluting the solids with methanol and concentrating until an aqueous phase appears, concentrating the supernatant until an aqueous phase appears, combining the aqueous phases, extracting with ethyl acetate and concentrating the extract to give a crude extract, creating a solution of the crude extract using petroleum ether in the presence of a small amount of methanol, then chromatographing this gradient on silica gel using a stepwise gradient of petroleum ether to petroleum ether/tert.-butyl methyl ether, subjecting the resulting fractions to thin layer chromatography on silica gel using a petroleum ether/diethyl ether mixture, detecting fractions which contain (I') using fluorescence quenching at 254 nm and separating these fractions, combining the separated fractions, evaporating them to give a crude product and chromatographing them on silica gel using a petroleum ether/tert.-butyl ether/methanol mixture as eluent, detecting fractions which contain (I') using UV light at 227 nm and separating these fractions, combining them, evaporating the combined fractions and isolating (I').
