Light stabilized, sinterable, thermoplastic polyurethane comprises isocyanate component (a) containing 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (100-70 mol.%), aliphatic diisocyanate or mixtures of aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic diisocyanate excluded 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (0-30 mol.%); a chain elongation component (b) containing at least a chain elongator (100-40 mol.%), with an average molecular weight of 104-500 g/mol, such as an ether-ketone compound of formula (H-[O-R 1>-CO] n-O-R 2>-O-[CO-R 1>-O] m-H) or (H-O-R 4>-O-[CO-R 3>-CO-O-R 4>-O] p-H); a chain elongator or its mixture (0-60 mol.%) with an average molecular weight of 60-400 g/mol, where both the chain elongators are not-identical; at least a polyol component (c) with an average molecular weight of 450-6000 g/mol, optionally a catalyst (d), light stabilizer (e) (0.1-5 wt.%, based on thermoplastic polyurethane), additive and/or auxiliary material (f), and chain breaker (g), where the ratio of (a) to the reactive isocyanate groups of (b), (c) and (g) is 0.9:1 to 1.1:1. R 1>6-24C alkylaryl (optionally substituted) or 1-12C alkylene; R 2>, R 4>1-12C alkylene or alkoxyalkylene or optionally substituted 6-24C alkylarylene or alkoxyarylene; R 3>6-20C alkylarylene, 6-20C arylene, 6-20C aralkylene (all optionally substituted) or 1-8C alkylene; either n, m : 0-1; or n+m : >=1; and p : 1-10. An independent claim is included for a heat and light stabilized molded parts comprising the thermoplastic polyurethane.

    • A process for the production of granules of thermoplastic polyurethanes prepared by reaction of cycloaliphatic diisocyanates comprises addition of, after the comminution of the thermoplastic polyurethane, one or more liquid wetting agents at a concentration of 0.01-0.5 wt.% followed by the addition of one or more solid powder agents having a m.pt. of at least70 degreesC at a concentration of 0.01-0.5 wt.%. A process for the production of granules of thermoplastic polyurethanes prepared by reaction of: (a) cycloaliphatic diisocyanates; (b) at least one polyol having a number average molecular weight of 600-8000 g/mol; (c) at least one chain extender having a number average molecular weight of 60-500 g/mol with the addition of; (d) optionally catalysts and; (e) optionally conventional processing aids and additives. Whereby, before and/or after the comminution of the thermoplastic polyurethane, one or more liquid wetting agents, liquid at at most30 degreesC are applied at a concentration of 0.01-0.5 wt.% (with respect to (wrt ) components (A)-(C)) followed by the addition of one or more solid powder agents having a m.pt. of at least70 degreesC at a concentration of 0.01-0.5 wt.% (wrt components (A)-(C)).

    • Production of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (TPU) involves (A) mixing (a) linear hydroxyl (OH)-terminated polyol(s) (molecular weight (Mw) 500-5000) with (b) organic diisocyanate in isocyanate (NCO)-reactive/NCO group equivalent ratio of (1.1-5.0):1 in mixing aggregate with high shear energy; (B) over 90% conversion to OH-terminated prepolymer (I) by reaction at over 80[deg]C; (C) mixing (I) with (c) chain extender(s) (Mw 60-490); (D) conversion to TPU by reaction with (b) to adjust overall equivalent ratio of NCO/NCO-reactive groups to (0.9-1.1):1. Production of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (TPU) with improved processability uses a multistage reaction comprising (A) mixing (a) linear hydroxyl (OH)-terminated polyol(s) of weight average molecular weight 500-5000 with (b) an organic diisocyanate in an equivalent ratio of isocyanate (NCO)-reactive groups to NCO groups of (1.1-5.0):1 in a mixing aggregate with high shear energy; (B) reacting the resultant mixture at temperatures above 80[deg]C to over 90% conversion with respect to (b), to a OH-terminated prepolymer (I); (C) mixing (I) with (c) chain extender(s) of molecular weight 60-490; (D) conversion to the TPU by reacting the mixture with component (b) in such an amount that the overall equivalent ratio of NCO/NCO-reactive groups is adjusted to (0.9-1.1):1. Stages (A) to (D) may take place in the presence of catalyst and with addition of 0-20 wt.% ancillaries and additives with respect to the total amount of TPU. An independent claim is included for use of the TPU for producing injection molded and extruded articles.
