    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enzymatic method which can remove residual hydrogen peroxide after alkaline hydrogen peroxide bleaching of a woven fabric by using a mixture of catalase with a highly concentrated buffer soln. SOLUTION: In this method, use is made of an enzyme capable of decomposing hydrogen peroxide, i.e., catalase, and a buffer soln. For the buffer soln., any high-concn. buffer soln. which can conduct buffering at pH3-9 may be used such as those under which the enzyme is stable and active and which can conduct buffering at pH4-9 and can lower pH to a desired pH range even in a small amt., e.g. a salt of citric acid, a salt of acetic acid, a salt of phosphoric acid, a salt of oxalic acid, triethanolamine, or ethylenediamine or a mixture of these compounds. A commercially available catalase is available in the form of an aq. soln. which is expressed in Baker unit (=Bu) or Kilo (kilo) catalase international unit (=kcIU). A 7 M aq. acetic acid soln. is adjusted to pH 5 by the addition of a 45% sodium hydroxide soln. to prepare an acetate buffer soln. A mixture is used which comprises 1 pt. commercially available catalase and 1.5 to 15 pts. high-concn. acetate buffer soln.
