摘要： A tool for shifting a sleeve into at least one intermediate position between stops has a shifting key that only can move the sleeve a finite amount before it is forced out of contact with the sleeve. An overpull key is released for engagement with the sleeve before the shifting key is forced out. The overpull key resists movement until a noticeable predetermined force is applied at which point the overpull key is freed from the sliding sleeve for a normal release. If any key fails to release, an emergency release is provided that independently displaces the key so that the tool can be removed. The tool can be operated in either an uphole or a downhole direction to shift the sleeve depending on the orientation of the keys. Embodiments using a single key type are contemplated.

摘要： A completion tubular is placed in position adjacent the zone or zones to be fractured and produced. It features preferably sliding sleeve valves one series of which can be put in the wide open position after run in for gravel packing and fracturing zones one at a time or in any desired order. These valves are then closed and another series of valves can be opened wide but with a screen material juxtaposed in the flow passage to selectively produce from one or more fractured zones. An annular path behind the gravel is provided by an offset screen to promote flow to me screened production port. The path can be a closed annulus that comes short of the production port or goes over it. For short runs an exterior screen or shroud is eliminated for a sliding sleeve with multiple screened ports that can be opened in tandem.

摘要： The invention features the use of a shape memory material in a downhole application to provide an energy source for at least in part setting the tool (10). In a specific application the springs (34) that set slips (12) for a liner hanger are made from the shape memory material and easily pre-compressed below the transition temperature when the material has low modulus of elasticity. The tool (10) is run into position where a heat source such as well fluids or a heater can bring the springs (34) above the transition temperature to store a force. The tool is then independently released to allow the stored force to set the tool.

摘要： A liner hanger has a housing with a pocket disposed on an inner wall surface and a slip slidingly engaged within the pocket. The liner hanger housing is secured in the string of casing. Both a setting mechanism and a liner engagement member are connected to the slips and are also located in the pocket. A releasable latching mechanism maintains the slips in the run-in position until the releasable latching mechanism is actuated. As the liner is moved through the casing coupler, the liner engagement member engages the liner through frictional force to cause the setting mechanism to move with the liner so that the latching mechanism can be disengaged and the slips can move axially downward. As the setting mechanism moves downward, the slips move radially inward and grip the liner.

摘要： An overshot tool for retrieving an object in a well includes a housing having a housing bore with upper and lower portions. A cam having a cam bore is carried in the upper portion of the bore. The housing and the cam are rotatable relative to each other from an aligned position, in which the cam bore axis and the housing bore lower portion axis coincide, to a misaligned position, in which the cam bore axis and the housing bore lower portion axis are misaligned with each other. The housing bore and the cam bore are open at a lower end for sliding over an object in the well when the tool is in the aligned position. Rotation of the housing and the cam relative to each other causes the cam bore axis and the lower portion axis to move toward the misaligned position, thereby gripping the object for retrieval.

摘要： Devices and methods for setting a packer inside a wellbore with little appreciable reduction of the useable area of the wellbore. The outer casing or liner of the wellbore contains one or more integrated casing coupler joints having an increased diameter chamber portion. A large bore packing element is carried within the increased diameter chamber portion. The packing element may be selectively actuated to form a seal against an interior tubular member. Because the packing element is located within the chamber portion of the casing coupler, the packer may be set while saving useable cross-sectional area within the casing.

The imposition of one or more intermediate slip seats, in an embedded or nested relationship, allows for greater radial expansion of the slip elements with respect to the interior liner.
