    • In a general-purpose internal combustion engine having a throttle valve and a choke valve each installed in an air intake passage connected to a combustion chamber, air sucked in flowing through the air intake passage and mixing with fuel supplied by a carburetor to generate an air-fuel mixture that enters the combustion chamber of a cylinder and is ignited to drive a piston to rotate a crankshaft to be connected to a load such as a generator, there are provided an electric motor (actuator), a throttle valve opening/closing mechanism connected to the motor to open/close the throttle valve and a choke valve opening/closing mechanism connected to the throttle valve opening/closing mechanism to open/close the choke valve in response to operation of the throttle valve opening/closing mechanism, thereby enabling to move a choke valve without need to install an additional actuator.

    • The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate opposed to the first substrate, and a vertically aligned liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates, and has a plurality of pixels each including a first electrode formed on the first substrate, a second electrode formed on the second substrate, and the liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second electrodes.     • A fuel supplying apparatus is configured to supply a gas engine with gas fuel in such a manner that tar separated from the gas fuel is guided to the engine. The apparatus includes a primary regulator and a secondary regulator formed integrally with the primary regulator. The primary regulator communicates with the secondary regulator through a gas passage. The secondary regulator is disposed below the primary regulator. The secondary regulator has a gas inlet for taking in the gas fuel and the tar that have passed from the primary regulator through the gas passage. The secondary regulator has an orifice disposed below the gas inlet for discharging the gas fuel and the tar. The tar separated from the gas fuel flows from the primary regulator through the gas passage and the gas inlet into the secondary regulator and discharged out of the orifice into the engine.

    • A method and an apparatus for measuring the microforce acting between a micro particle fixed on the probe and the observation plane are described. The probe is feedback-controlled to be held motionless by canceling probe displacements caused by movements of the micro particle fixed on the probe, using irradiation pressure provided by a laser that applies photon pressure. The microforce acting between the micro particle fixed on the probe and the observation plane is measured by recording the time-varying laser output power. This allows probe fluctuations to be reduced to a few angstroms, and permits control of the distance to the target object to within a few nm, enabling measurement of microforces on the order of 0.1 pN.
