    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a silicon nitride based honeycomb filter wherein a crack and deformation of a honeycomb molded body hardly occur even if the size of the honeycomb molded body or the density of segments is increased in the case of burning the split-type honeycomb (segments). SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of a silicon nitride based honeycomb filter, the honeycomb molded body including metallic silicon particles and a pore forming material is placed in a heating furnace, nitrogen is introduced into the furnace to turn silicon into silicon nitride, and a silicon nitride based honeycomb filter consisting of silicon nitride is manufactured by sintering. The method included (1) the first step of employing a vacuum atmosphere or an atmosphere including Ar or the like of a pressure not higher than an atmospheric pressure as the gas atmosphere in heat treatment and raising temperature until the temperature of the atmosphere is in the range from room temperature to a nitrogen gas introduction starting temperature, (2) the second step of regulating the pressure inside the furnace at a constant decompression pressure within the range of 20-90 KPa and introducing a specific introduction volume of nitrogen gas and raising temperature to form nitride and (3) the step of employing an atmosphere including nitrogen of a pressure not higher than the atmospheric pressure as the atmosphere after a nitrogen gas introduction control terminating temperature and heating and sintering therein.
