摘要： This invention relates to stable aqueous dispersions of film-forming addition polymer.Novel aqueous dispersions comprise polymer which is a copolymer of amphipathic and non-amphipathic monomer. The amphipathic monomer has an HLB value of at least 8, the hydrophilic component thereof is non-ionic, and the lipophilic component has a molecular weight of at least 100, comprises at least one ethylenic double bond but has no acrylyl or methacrylyl structure. The polymer comprises up to 80% by weight of amphipathic monomer.The dispersions are useful as components of such compositions as surface coatings and adhesives.

摘要： An acrylic coating composition suitable for use as an automotive refinish lacquer comprises a mixture of(a) a solution in volatile organic solvent of an acrylic copolymer of 75-90% methyl methacrylate, 1.5-6.0% dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and 8-23.5% of butyl acrylate, butyl methacrylate or lauryl methacrylate, the copolymer having a Tg of 80.degree.-95.degree. C.;(b) a solution in volatile organic solvent of cellulose acetate butyrate, the cellulose acetate butyrate having a viscosity of 0.5-5 sec and a hydroxyl value of 2 maximum; and(c) a monomeric ester plasticizersuch that the non-volatile constituents of (a), (b) and (c) comprise respectively 43.5-64.0%, 15.0-25.5% and 21.0-31.5% of the total weight of non-volatile material of (a) plus (b) plus (c).

摘要： The invention provides a method of preparing an aqueous dispersion of polymer encapsulated particulate material, the method comprising: providing a dispersion of the particulate material in a continuous aqueous phase, the dispersion comprising RAFT agent as a stabiliser for the particulate material; and polymerising ethylenically unsaturated monomer under the control of the RAFT agent to form polymer at the surface of the dispersed particulate material, thereby providing the aqueous dispersion of polymer encapsulated particulate material; wherein polymerisation of the ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprises: (a) polymerising a monomer composition that includes ionisable ethylenically unsaturated monomer so as to form a base responsive water swellable RAFT polymer layer that encapsulates the particulate material; and (b) polymerising a monomer composition that includes non-ionisable ethylenically unsaturated monomer so as to form an extensible, water and base permeable RAFT polymer layer that encapsulates the base responsive water swellable RAFT polymer layer.
