    • A pivot assembly for mounting an operating member on a base member for pivotal movement about an axis at an optimum axial position comprising: a pivot shaft having an axis, a base member and an operating member having axially opposable first and second inner surfaces respectively, a first mounting apparatus for mounting one of the members at a fixed axial position on the pivot shaft, and a second mounting apparatus for mounting the other member on the pivot shaft for relative rotational movement, and for axial movement to a position where the first and second inner surfaces axially oppose each other with an axial space therebetween, and the other member is at the optimum axial position. The second mounting apparatus includes, a pair of compressible disk springs mounted to be in a biased condition when the other member is at the optimum axial position. The disk springs constantly tend to move the other member in one axial direction away from the optimum position. The second mounting apparatus also includes a stop which prevents movement of the other member relative to the pivot shaft in the one axial direction from the optimum position and maintains the disk springs in the biased condition thereby preventing movement of the other member from the optimum position due to wear induced axial dimensional changes.

    • The drill stand has a vertical column and a clamp moveably mounted on the column. A carriage adapted to support a drill is moveably mounted on the column for movement with and with respect to the clamp. A link is pivoted on the clamp and has two pivot locations. A lever arm is pivotally connected to the carriage and has two roller pivots selectively engageable with either of the pivot locations to change the force multiplication and travel distance as the arm is pivoted about the selected pivot location. Each pivot location is at the end of a track having one portion on a curve centered on the link connection to the clamp and another portion on an arc centered on the pivot location associated with the other of the tracks. Each roller engages one of the tracks. The pivot locations are closer together than are the rollers so only one roller can be in a pivot location at one time. The link can be moved about its pivot connection to the clamp to select which of the rollers will be in its associated pivot location. A detent arrangement, including a protrusion on the link and a leaf spring engageable with the protrusion when said arm is raised, acts to retain a selected roller in its pivot location.

    • A miter saw including a base having a support surface for supporting a workpiece. A turntable is mounted on the base for rotation about a vertical axis and a support is mounted on the turntable. A bevel angle adjustment mechanism is mounted on the support and includes a housing movable about a horizontal bevel angle axis. A cutting unit is connected to the housing for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis between a cutting position and a non-cutting position. The bevel angle adjustment mechanism supports cutting unit for movement in a first direction from a vertical position to a bevel angle position greater than 45° from vertical. The bevel angle adjustment mechanism also supports the cutting unit for movement in a second direction opposite to the first direction to approximately a negative 5° bevel angle position. Preferably, the miter saw further includes a biasing member, and the cutting unit is freely movable between a vertical, 0° bevel angle position and a transverse, 45° bevel angle position and movable against the force of the biasing member beyond the 0° and 45° bevel angle positions.
